50 Years Ago Today: Steve Prefontaine, 21, breaks the U.S. record in the 5,000 meters at the 1972 U.S. Trials on his home track. He arrived to the track with his own hype shirts, which became famous when he paraded around in it after. My ticket, with the punch on this day.
