The 5 most important albums to/for me in the ‘80s
1. Bryan Adams - Reckless
2. Huey Lewis… Sports
3. Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet
4. Aerosmith - Permanent Vacation
5. Def Leppard - Hysteria
They changed my life. No question.
@mitchlafon Same here.
Sorry, have to go to work now. It was very nice talking to you. As a rock journalist and rock fan you're an example for many of us. Keep up the good work!
@mitchlafon There are exceptions that proof the rule
The Golden Earring & Shocking Blue are some exceptions 4 the Netherlands. Can't think of much more, unless we count Van Halen as an exemple of dutch cultural export. But we listen mostly to US music here. Nothing wrong with that by the way
@mrocknl I think it goes both ways?
How big is Honeymoon Suite in Australia?
How big is Status Quo in Brazil…
Where we live, in part, dictates the music we like
I’ve mentioned it before, but I feel compelled to mention it again. It is amazing how geography, in part, dictates our musical tastes.
Again, here is an example of Australian band Cold Chisel. They are currently on their 50th anniversary tour and recently played the city of Ballarat (Australia). A tad under 30 000 fans showed up. Had this been in the US - maybe 300 would have shown up.
They play good old rock n roll like many American bands, and yet virtually unknown in North America. The difference isn’t the music - it’s the geography.
What is more remarkable are the bands and artists that are worldwide sensations. What is it that made INXS speak to the whole world? What is it about Metallica, U2, Madonna, Bon Jovi, etc… how do some break the geographical barriers and yet others are locked to their countries?
