unfortunately, the woman’s take on the galamsey issue is a direct reflection of the eagerness politicians across the divide have toward the menace. disappointed but not surprised.

Just over a year ago, the league was rocked by tragedy when a passionate Asante Kotoko supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong (popularly known as Nana Pooley), was stabbed to death during a match against Nsoatreman FC. Despite widespread outrage, the perpetrators have yet to be brought to justice, leaving many fans questioning the effectiveness of security and investigations in our football ecosystem. Now, in a heartbreaking new incident, the league has lost yet another life. Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong tragically died after the team's bus was ambushed by armed robbers on the Bibiani-Goaso road, as the squad returned from their Matchday 29 fixture against FC Samartex. The young player sustained fatal gunshot wounds in the chaos, while several other players and officials were forced to flee into nearby bushes for safety. What should have been a routine journey home after a 1-0 defeat turned into a nightmare on Ghana's highways. These back-to-back tragedies one involving fan violence at the stadium and the other an armed attack on a travelling team expose deep-rooted issues of insecurity surrounding Ghanaian football. From inadequate stadium safety to the vulnerability of teams on the roads, the risks facing players, officials, and supporters are becoming alarmingly clear. A lot more needs to be done and urgently. The Ghana Football Association, security agencies, clubs, and the government must collaborate on concrete measures: enhanced match-day security, better protection for travelling teams (including escorted convoys where necessary), improved road safety on key routes, swift and transparent investigations into such incidents, and a zero-tolerance approach to violence in and around the game. For the league to survive and thrive, the safety of everyone involved must become the top priority. Enough is enough lives should never be the price of watching or playing the beautiful game. Rest well, Dominic, Rest well Francis 🙏🏿

it turns out the one who knows how to feed a crowd, can sometimes keep them from asking what’s really going on at home.
