Its title was Turkiyenin Duzeni,Library of Congress which means “Turkey's future.” And it was straight out the Marxist economic approach to the needs of Turkey. Hard hitting, nearly violent in its statements about what was wrong with what was going on. Of course this was a book that the students seized upon. That obviously was something that we had to do something about. So to the small degree that we did involve ourselves with book programs, we aimed our sights at neutralizing this single book. I agree with you entirely, they were not great readers in Turkey, but this book by Avcioglu was popular with the students, and we tried to neutralize that by making available books from the American point of view. With some success. But the book program was nothing very much, as was proper, in Turkey
