Year 6 had their final printmaking lessons this week - pulling together all of the skills they have developed during the unit. There are some truly beautiful pieces. Well done Year 6!

Year 6 have been exploring collagraph printing this week as part of their printmaking unit. Just like their focus artist, @janeormes , they have taken great inspiration from nature whilst creating texture in their pieces. #artforall

This was a great experience for the children - learning about the huge role of editing and the power of the pen, whilst also understanding that creative work takes time and eventually you’ll find your style.

Today, Year 6 loved their visit from Elizabeth and Anna Hopkinson - mother and daughter author and illustrator duo! It was fascinating to speak to a people with such creative jobs as well as understand the writing process of an author and how they work with an illustrator.

Class 6A have had a wild time in science this week - almost explosive! They explored micro-organisms and set up an experiment to discover whether yeast was, in fact, living. They definitely discovered the conditions in which this micro-organism thrives! 🔬

The children are having an absolutely amazing time at Blackhills! It has been lovely to go up and see them all in their element. Their tents are all up, layers are on and they are now enjoying time around the campfire. 🏕️

We have received a very kind donation of herb plants from @RHSSchools. Year 5 enjoyed planting the herbs in their section of the allotment and the task created lots of discussion around the smells, the uses for herbs and plans for taking care of the new plants. Thank you

Today we worked on our tie dye textile pieces by recycling carefully chosen off-cuts of sari material! What a lovely way to recycle and prevent this fabric going into landfill. ♻️ We also loved doing Indian block printing too to add to our pieces!

Year 6 finished off their day of safety awareness with their second session of first aid training. Today they learnt how to put an unconscious person in the recovery position and unblock their airways.

Year 5 & 6 have spent the week celebrating Pakistani & Indian heritage. They ended the week with a day spent in traditional clothing - here are some of our amazing teaching staff who dressed to impress!

Really though, the heart of the whole school community shone through today to ensure little whiskers was okay - from the children who found them, to the staff who cared for them and the parent who brought in some food while we came up with a plan! ❤️
