@arealmofwonder The men and women, looking at the road and trees, enable the children who underyawn them to see the beauty of the hill beneath the road. Mr Edward Thomas is such a man; we readers are like a child on the parapet. Would that there were more of us.

@DMBLauren Walker is the real deal. He came back from the minors a year ago and Cards have been a mess. Incredible.

I knew! It is a great novel, well worth reading. Our cats were named Don Quixote and Sancho, and my wife and I saw Man of La Mancha when we were dating. I love the book. In fact, it has been 10 years or so for me and it is high time I read it again. Thank you for the inspiration!

I'm reading "Don Quixote" for the first time and IT'S VERY FUNNY! Who knew??? A few thoughts: 1. Don Quixote reminds me sooooo much of my ex 2. They had fart humor in the 1600s? (of course they did 🙄) 3. I need to see "Man of La Mancha!" My well-read people, what are yours?

From NJ to Zanesville, OH by noon. Not bad. And the supercharger here is adjacent to old friend @SteaknShake where I had lunch.

@DMBLauren @SoMuchToPlayDMB This sounds stupid - but did I just talk with you out front?? I am an idiot. I thought you were a girl went to school with me. X is odd - you feel like you know people. I will look for you at the show, I was confused earlier. 😊

@arealmofwonder Thank you for posting this. A fun personal connection: I believe my ancestors Patrick and Anne left from this harbor, in 1842, to work on the Welland canal near Niagara Falls.

The first show in Camden NJ was a good one, but thought it ended on a low note. The rain held off! Related: I just went on an urban adventure in desperate need for an Americano, and the only open Starbucks for miles is in a hospital lobby!

Made it to Philadelphia. First time here in maybe 15 years. I am always astonished at how huge it is. Charging the car at a casino (!) then heading across the Ben Franklin Bridge to the hotel and 2️⃣ nights of DMB

Stopped at Newburg PA to charge and get a coffee at the McKinney Station coffee/malt shop. Delightful workers told me it used to be a gas station, thus the name. Bonus discovery accompanied the coffee. An answer to the immortal question about the chicken and the road: me.

Alas, I slept poorly, which is common for me in hotels in recent years. Must not fade before the encore! But I am ready to make the final 6 hour push toward Camden and @davematthewsbnd Will check out before 6, take a 10-minute walk, and then hit the road. Dispatch #5

Made it to Wheeling WV! 11 hours of travel, two full playings of the 4 hour playlist, and a couple of close calls on the highway. But I made it. The two playlists got me through most of Ohio, and DMB radio brought me through the final hour or so: A full concert from Bethel NY in 2019 which sounds fantastic. Now checked-in, I am charging the car to simplify things for tomorrow morning. The supercharger is adjacent to the Holiday Inn, which lured me from my usual Marriott selection. Sweet.

I departed Saint Louis at 10:31. Making my first stop in Terre Haute, IN, thanks to the genius of Tesla engineers. It is important that I express my gratitude to the Indiana Department pf Transportation for building two u-turn roads on I-70 just east of US40/SR 46. I missed the goofy exit - which they also built - and did not have enough charge to turn around at Brazil. Your u-turn ramp saved me, and my @davematthewsbnd adventure. My DMB studio playlist has 4 hours of songs. I left home to The Song That Jane Likes and arrived at the first supercharger to Old Dirt Hill. Still thinking about that crazy chat during the Volta stream last night. Dispatch #3

Destination: New Jersey. T minus one hour. There is a lot to do when leaving a wife and six kids in Saint Louis to see @davematthewsbnd in New Jersey. Departure is in an hour. I have gone to the grocery store and done the laundry and taken care of the dog and chickens. Given the kids their marching orders. I just need to pack my suitcase. The Volta concert last night was great, as an appetizer for the shows in Camden. I laughed but also got irritated at some of the chat. It was hard to look away from the avalanche of posting. The concert ambience will eliminate the iPhone critics and the nastiness. The effort to get to Camden will be worth it. Dispatch #2

Tomorrow I begin my annual trek to see @davematthewsbnd with a fellow who has now been my friend for 39 years. The concerts for us this year are in Camden NJ, and I live in Saint Louis MO, so it is a bit of an adventure for me. We have seen DMB like this since before I was married and had kids. There were years when I thought I was too overwhelmed to keep up the tradition. There were years when I didn’t have the time or money and couldn’t make it. The last few years I have been reliable, though, and on reflection, I am quite happy that we do this. It is nice to have a friend for life. This is a way to maintain that friendship, as he now lives far away with his family. The concerts are always terrific. Great music and great community; listening on XM and Apple Music is very nice, but being there and feeling things is, well, worth a cross country trek away from my loved ones. It will be fun. This is roughly my 20th DMB show. I never kept track in the early days, and DMB didn’t always come to Saint Louis, and I wasn’t always traveling to see them, either! This total is a rounding error for the dedicated DMB fans, but for me it has been a huge commitment over the years. My wife approves of all this and encourages me in these quests. I am excited for two nights in Camden. Further bulletins as events warrant.

@CaryKelly11 I learned this the hard way. I thought Tic Tacs were the ideal sweetness bridge in the mid afternoon. I would plow through one of these while waiting for the kids to get out of school. Then I discovered the abuse of the serving size and calorie chart. Never again.

Since Tic Tacs are 0 calories, I should be able to eat a 5-gallon bucket of them and not gain an ounce, right? But calorie math stops working when the serving size is microscopic even though the primary ingredient is sugar. “Zero calories” doesn’t mean zero calories. It means the label found a loophole and guess what? The human body doesn’t give a damn about loopholes.
