A brief introduction about myself: I am an American expat living in Hong Kong since 2014 whose journey to this beautiful place began with a summer banking internship during college. I love starting and building businesses and have met so many amazing people doing the same in Southeast Asia and the greater China region. I plan to share insights on moving to Hong Kong, starting and running a business in a fast paced environment and sporting hobbies I take part in. Follow and give this post a like if you’re interested.

No one is talking about THIS PART of the SBA's new Grocery Guarantee program. Their just saying "if you're in this NAICS code you're eligible, and if you're not, you're not." As with all things SBA the rules often land in the grey area. Let me explain. 🧵

When i started my current business in a foreign country at 24 i had zero clue what i was in for. Finance to Seafood? No industry expertise, no money, no connections? Sure fire way to needing to find a job, right? If I’m completely honest i struggled with accepting the new identity as a seafood entrepreneur in the beginning. and it certainly held me back. 12 years later i value surrounding myself and seeking help from like minded peers. I don’t care what people think and if they judge me. I’ve passed that point. My mental state has shifted, the question now becomes what do I have that I can offer you to help you succeed? No one cares about you as much as you think and if you’re holding yourself back from doing things because of this you’re just wasting your time and not fit to lead yet.

Know what these are? For roe lovers this could be your jam. Live Spot prawns from Vancouver are all about the roe and best served steamed with a bit of soy sauce on the side (add chili). They’re shipped live to Hong Kong. Sold same day to restaurants and enjoyed by many. Current prices ~ 38 usd/lb. Not cheap but delicious. Season’s on now. Enjoy

Biggest challenge at the moment? Managing QC/QA from suppliers. This was supposed to be a can of crab claw meat but after further inspection at our plant in China, a large shell was found along with way too many other small shells and filaments. Can't "AI" fix this but nevertheless it is a procedural oversight that needs to be discussed in order to maintain a healthy business relationship.

Food court “Modern” Hong Kong style. Brighter lights for seating. Same old dingy cooking conditions. Still a classic. Enjoy your breakfast America. It’s Thai for dinner in Hong Kong.

> took 6 months off ecom after last exit > pondered legacy brand for awhile, stumbling along the way > moved to hong kong from bali, absolutely polar opposites > came up with the idea in Nov 25’ > Pre orders launched successfully in feb 26’ > sold @ecomprtal to liquidate, cut off all consulting clients, stopped all partnerships > going all in on this mission; a perfect mix of art, competition, and craftsmanship

I got out of the 9-5 when I was 24 to become an entrepreneur. I'm not rich (yet) but the 2 years of corporate life was enough. It's on my resume and I have the ability to use it when I need to but it doesn't mean much at this point. Back when I was 24, so much discussion was around becoming an entrepreneur as soon as you could before you had responsibilities etc etc. Nowadays the resources available to you are even more accessible. It doesn't mean the journey is easier. It probably is harder now given the competition or ease to do alot of the remedial tasks that would otherwise knock people out of the entreprenial game sooner. You think you can't until you do.

The richest men in the world are: 75% Entrepreneurs 15% Investors 7% Athletes 3% Artists 0.00% Employees. Nobody got rich with a salary. Dear son, Be smart enough to realize: 9-5 is a scam.

"I want to buy a business that has recurring revenue..." It's not recurring without work. Your customers don't care about your bottom line. They care about theirs. You need to provide the best possible pricing or terms in order to keep business "recurring".
