Introducing a “Holidays around the World” project with children’s books that talk about different holidays. From Winter Solstice to Kwanza to Lunar New Year. My students read the kid friendly details about the upcoming holidays!

My government students have been working on presentations about a landmark Supreme Court Case. They are now telling a classmate about the case! After we reflected on what cases we found to be the most interesting and why they matter to us.

My students built superheroes to represent the different cabinet members. Some impressive work for the departments!

Through this exercise, they saw how the same group of voters can be arranged into districts in different ways, which can change which party ends up with the majority. This showed how district boundaries can significantly influence election outcomes. @rochcommschools

To help students understand the power of redistricting and gerrymandering, we completed an activity where M&Ms represented voters of different political parties. Students were tasked with drawing district lines to favor either a Republican or Democratic plan.

Constitution day?! My students worked hard yesterday & today breaking down the principles and mechanisms of the Constitution.

First full week in high school: - In AP Gov, we broke down our first FRQ with evidence from Federalist no. 10 & Brutus no. 1 - In Gov, we completed Blackout Poetry with the Declaration of Independence - In World Religions, we discussed the differences of philosophy & religion

My 7th grade students practiced their geography knowledge with some back to back route drawings. They had to explain to their partner the routes that explorers took during the Age of Exploration. Such a great lesson in communication and collaboration! @rochcommschools

We had some impressive results!

My 7th graders took on the role of architects by building a Greek Temple! The challenge is they were only given 10 pieces of paper, scissors, and tape! We learned about the different column styles of Grecian architecture & how significant their work was.

We started our brackets earlier this year for Reform, but once again, they didn't disappoint. This is one of my favorite things that I created, and I love watching the Ss' thought process and creativity! @nelsonjh_hawks @KISDSocStudies #flyfierce

My students have been exploring Westward Expansion and we created license plates to represent the new states that were added to the Union. They had to consider why we acquired the land & what symbols would represent the state!

If you don't enjoy spending time around children, education may not be the right path. Teaching is as much about relationships as it is about content.

Day before winter break? My World History classes completed a reading, questions, and a coloring sheet about holidays around the world. My US History classes created “kicks” to match our first 3 presidents!

A fun October activity, the students had to consider important Revolutionary War figures and explain what would be in their costume set!

Loved building our understanding of vocab with legos! Even included some redcoats before we start our discussion with the American Revolution.
