These are elementary school children who woke up this morning. Who ate their favorite cereal. Who tied their shoes in double knots. Who laughed with friends on the bus. Now more than a dozen are dead. This isn’t normal. It doesn’t have to be this way. It can’t keep being this way

For all of you who didn't meet your @goodreads' reading challenge this year, I wrote a book titled The Book Whisperer and I didn't meet my goal, either. We are fine. The books will be there when we find our way back to them! Sometimes, readers don't read. #nerdybookclub

“Essay” comes from the French word meaning “to try.” But that spirit of tentativeness is crushed when essays are graded and the point isn't to explore but to snag an A.

Again, if we keep focusing on kids deficits they will only see themselves that way. Knock this nonsense off. Our students are maneuvering being students in a pandemic and they are demonstrating brilliance. Celebrating them should be our first priority.

The only way students will ever become strong readers is by reading — a lot!
