@mshurtleffwrite There are YouTube videos on how to make your own shoes. Nicole Rudolph, I think. In case you are tempted again.

I visited a couple of historic towns and was inspired to become a tinsmith, shoemaker, or printer. Unfortunately, I get on the interwebs to find out that the cost equipment for these things is far beyond rationalization, if you can find it at all 😭😭

@mshurtleffwrite Alas, sometimes they are necessary! The next thing I'd probably think to try to do, is find other stories with flashbacks I thought we well done (or at least not obtrusive) and study why that works

I keep going back to my bandit story to edit it but the 30 page flashback trips me up every time. I've tried splitting it up, cutting short, so many things, but nothing structurally works.

I don’t share many personal things here, but this has impacted my life and it would be weird to say nothing. By the grace of God and a massive miracle, my husband is alive. 🎉🎉🎉 He fell fourteen feet onto concrete 3 weeks ago. He has broken bones but he will heal.

@write_and_sigh I think part of the advantage of self publishing is worrying less about branding but I could see some cases where a different pen name might be useful, like if I went from children's to horror or something, haha

A question for indie authors who write in multiple genres. Do you have seperate pen names? I have an older MS I'd love to self pub (maybe next year) but the genre couldn't be more different 😅

@mshurtleffwrite Oh flashbacks can be tricky! Is there a way to convey the necessary info without the flashback?

@mshurtleffwrite I found Moby-Dick grew on me the second time I read it. Or maybe I just learned to treat it like a whaling manual.

I follow a lot of writers from all kinds of opinions bc I'm following them for writing but it sure does make my timeline interesting, especially when my opposite opinion followers discover each other 😅

Visited some places recently where people of my beliefs were killed and abused. Then I come on Twitter and see insults hurled at my religion, and I don't even know what to think except I'm grateful for a Savior who taught Matthew 5:44--teaching that we can let go of hurt and love

I honestly don't care about people's spoken grammar, and I speak grammatically incorrect on purpose a lot. But for some reason, my brain has fixated on the difference between less and fewer, and I correct myself every time now even though I could swear I don't actually care

After a decade of sitting alone at church nothing brings me greater happiness than having my husbands arm around me during sacrament meeting And bonus for him: I have long nails and he gets back scratches
