I asked Kihara for an update on the leadership transition at I&M Bank Kenya. He says the process is underway & the plan is to conclude it as soon as is possible. "We worry about vacancies at senior level"

Is I&M looking to grow inorganically given the recapitalisation taking place? Is the Group being courted by suitors looking to cement their Kenya/E. African presence? Kihara says: · I&M is very confident about its strategic direction & it is keen on scaling · I&M will consider any discussions along those lines based on the merit that they bring to the table & the existing strategy · I&M doesn't see any value in expending a lot of effort on a small acquisition, the Group could easily growth that way organically in a year · Acquisition & scaling doesn't have to be constrained to a bank, complementary strengths can be found in many other non-bank players

I asked Kihara when I&M Group will cross the 20.0% 'threshold' on ROE & signify strengthened capabilities in extracting profits from shareholder capital. He makes a few points: · The business is firmly on that path. 2024 closed at 17.0% & 2025 closed at 18.0% · Some subsidiaries have already crossed the 20.0% mark, Rwanda being a good case in point · The Group's venture into more retail targeted offerings & strong capital management will enable acceleration of this path in the near & medium-term

I told Kihara that for a bank that cured its NPL ratio to ~ 9.8% (~ 11.8% in 2024) & shaved off 11.5% y/y from the stock of bad debt to Kes 31.4 billion, I was surprised by the deterioration in the cost of risk which ticked to ~ 2.9% with provisions ramped up 11.1% y/y to Kes 8.7 billion.

While the rest of the market was reporting lethargy on the funded side of the business, I&M managed to pull through double digit y/y growth. How was this achiever? Kihara says: · 33.0% in the Group's deposit book (to Kes 380.66 billion) created surplus liquidity that was deployed in government paper · The surge in the group's deposits was fundamentally transactional driven & this then enabled the Group to have liquidity to play with while keeping the cost of funds by the tight leash · The decline in the Group's L/D ratio to ~ 63.0% is less about modest appetite for risk & more about the fact that the deposit raking machine was far much stronger in 2025 · FX trading income (down 5.9% y/y to Kes 3.3 billion) was broadly cushioned by partnerships

I&M Group Holdings (@imbankke) posted a 30.4% y/y increase in profit after tax to Kes 15.3 billion in the year ended December 2025, propelled by strong firing from both engines: · 16.9% y/y jump in net interest income which closed at Kes 34.4 billion · 38.3% y/y jump in non-funded income to Kes 12.4 billion I sat down with the Regional Chief Executive Officer, Kihara Maina (@kiharaindar) to unpack the earnings. I fully support all measures being taken to bring back order and sanity on our roads. However there are some concerns that @ntsa_kenya should clarify, as clarity and transparency are important for public confidence in such systems. 1. Where exactly will violations be captured? Are there speed cameras, traffic cameras, or will police officers still be issuing the violations? 2.How will the system identify the driver? Will the fine go to the registered vehicle owner or the actual driver? 3.How accurate is the system? What happens if a motorist receives a fine by mistake? 4.Is there a process to dispute or appeal a fine? If a violation is incorrect, what is the process and timeline to challenge it? 5.What types of offences will trigger instant fines? Speeding, red light violations, lane indiscipline, parking offences or others? 6.Will motorists receive proof of the offence? For example a photo, location, date and time of the alleged violation. 7. How will motorists know the SMS notification is genuine? What safeguards exist to prevent scams or fraudulent messages? 8. What happens if the registered phone number for the vehicle is outdated? Many vehicles change ownership without contact details being updated. 9.Why are payments directed to KCB branches only? Will there also be options such as M-Pesa or online payment through eCitizen? 10. Will motorists be informed where speed cameras are installed? Transparency helps motorists comply with enforcement zones. 11.Will proper road signs warning of speed cameras and enforcement zones be installed? Clear warning signs are standard practice in many countries. 12. Are road markings and speed limit signs visible and properly maintained? Motorists cannot fairly be penalised where signage or markings are unclear or missing. 13. What criteria will be used to place speed cameras? Will they be installed in accident prone areas or simply for revenue collection? 14. Who verifies and audits the accuracy of the automated system? Automated enforcement systems require independent oversight and calibration. 15. Will the public be informed which roads or zones the system will operate on first? Motorists should know where the system is active. 16. What measures are being taken to remove unroadworthy vehicles from the roads? Many accidents involve vehicles that clearly should not be operating. 17.How effective and credible are the current vehicle inspection processes? There are concerns that inspections are inconsistent or poorly enforced. 18. How do vehicles that are clearly unsafe still pass inspection? If enforcement on motorists is strict, the inspection system must also be credible. 19. Will NTSA increase random roadworthiness checks on public service vehicles, buses and trucks? These vehicles carry many passengers and must meet the highest safety standards. 20. Is there independent oversight of the vehicle inspection system? For enforcement to gain public trust, the inspection process must be transparent and accountable.
