A Paschal Miracle… Hawai’i 2026 In these holy and radiant days, a great miracle has once again be given to us, the Most Holy Theotokos again shows us the depth of her boundless love, a love so tender and so personal that it reaches even to us who are unworthy. Through her wonderworking Hawaiian Iveron Icon, she has poured out her mercy in a way that words can scarcely contain. As in previous years, the Holy Icon becomes completely dry beginning on Palm Sunday, remaining so throughout the solemn days of Holy Week, as if entering with us into the mystery of Christ’s suffering. Yet this year, her love gently broke through even the stillness of those sacred days. On the great feast of the Annunciation, the very moment when her “yes” brought salvation into the world, small, glistening beads of myrrh began to appear. Like tears of compassion, they formed quietly upon the Icon. Again, on Holy Thursday, as we commemorated the Mystical Supper, these delicate droplets returned, a hidden sign that she had not abandoned us, but was watching, praying, and loving us still. Then once more, the Icon grew dry, as the Church entered more deeply into the awe and sorrow of the Passion. But on Holy Saturday morning, as the Church stood on the threshold between death and life, the miracle blossomed again. During the Vesperal Liturgy, tiny beads of holy myrrh began to form, slowly and silently, like the first light before dawn. As the hours passed, they multiplied and grew, as though the Mother of God herself was preparing us for the joy to come. And then, as the night of Pascha arrived, her love could no longer be contained. By the beginning of the Paschal Midnight Liturgy, the myrrh was already flowing. By the end of the services, it streamed forth in great abundance, dripping down from the holy Icon as a visible and tangible outpouring of her maternal care. It was as if heaven itself had opened, and the grace of God was being poured out upon His people. The clergy then opened the Icon, and all who were present beheld this great and holy wonder. With reverence and trembling joy, the myrrh was gathered. Cotton was gently pressed and squeezed, filling a large silver vessel with the fragrant gift. These blessed pieces were then given to the faithful, each one receiving not merely a token, but a living sign of the Mother of God’s love. What are we to say before such mercy? She does not forget us. She does not abandon us. She loves us, more than we can comprehend. Even in our weakness, even in our struggles, even in our sins, she remains our Mother, interceding for us and drawing us ever closer to her Son. This is our Orthodox faith, living, real, and overflowing with grace. A faith not only believed, but encountered, a faith in which heaven touches earth. With hearts filled with awe, gratitude, and unshakable joy, we proclaim: Christ is Risen! Ua ala ‘o Kristo! Христо́с Воскресе! ქრისტე აღსდგა! Hristos a înviat! Le Christ est ressuscité!
