@GaleMorrisonEd If learning math is for getting answers, show students what to do and many of them will be able to repeat it with different numbers for a few weeks. If learning math is for solving problems when you’re not sure what to do, try some of the useful and effective strategies in BTC.

What’s the difference between racism in South Africa and racism in America? It comes down to directness. #BetweenTheScenes

@fawnpnguyen I think it’s because the curriculum I grew up with never asked me to model someone’s income when they made $25 per hour and $200 after 4 hours. I’m sure there are lots of contexts to consider. Also a lot of power in seeing that the ordered pair x1,y1 makes the true statement 0=0

Please remind me why we need the point-slope form. (Slope-intercept and standard forms are useful and telling in real contexts.)

When you think you know all the strategies and AVID reminds you about humility. #AVIDMath

@BrianMendler #1-My response to a disrespectful kid is always to apologize and say that I must have done something to disrespect them. Could they please tell me?—the result? Either a. I did & I learn or b. I didn’t and they tell me what’s actually up.

Five relationship building tips: 1. Be respectful to disrespectful kids. 2. Be there when things are bad. 3. Ask questions. 4. Required time spent w kid does not count. 5. Criticize (& praise) privately. What would you add? #edchat #kidsdeserveit #thatonekid #tlap #edutwitter

So you would say it is a very small negative number? And -1/1000000 is a relatively large negative number.

@AppoSapp I give feedback with a rubric: exceeded expectations 100%, goal 85%, progressing 70%, not yet 50%. They can fix and resubmit formative quizzes until they meet the criteria for 100%. Summative tests are graded the same way and cannot be resubmitted.

3x^2 multiplied by 2x is 6x^3. Can you explain why?
