@thorstenball I totally agree. It's another tool in the belt, and you should know when and how to use it. In the beginning there was hype around AI auto-completion, which is imhop the worst way of interacting with an LLM, as you are completely out of control and have to guess where it will go

People who use their MacBooks in clamshell mode: How do you get them to reliably wake up when they're connected to an external display and keyboard? Mine is connected to display via one USB-C cable (and keyboard/mouse connected to display) and sometimes it doesn't wake up?

Writing good code isn’t what puts food on the table, delivering useful code does. Levels is a solo dev making $190K/month from shipping over 70 projects and iterating on the ones that people want to pay for. When you’re a solo dev, focus on shipping your code and getting people to pay for it (if that’s your objective), and less on the things that don’t matter (like tests and staging environments). If you want to write tests, write tests. If tests will assure you that your code is doing what you think it does, write tests. If something breaks on prod and having tests and a staging env will help you sleep better, do that. Don’t let an idealistic talking point about code being craft blind you to what your personal objective is.

people building self-hostable infrastructure like software aim for maximum portability so that usually means a long lived process in a container i would suggest designing for lambda - that gives users a zero ops setup and people can still use a container if they want to

@VicVijayakumar 3 rounds should be more than enough for most positions. Give them the benefit of a doubt if you have a general good feeling. In Germany you have a probation period where both sides can terminate the contract without issues. You only see if it's really a fit in day to day work

My father-in-law was an engineering manager. He is insanely gifted. He used to run hundreds of interviews years ago and I asked him what it would cost to hire smart people today without it being 7+ rounds. I will never forget his answer… “We can’t, we don’t know how to do it.”
