Today, we’re celebrating the 90th anniversary of MTA Bridges and Tunnels’ flagship facility—the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge! Also known as the Triborough Bridge, this vital link has connected Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx since 1936. Spanning 14 miles of bridges, viaducts, ramps, and approaches, it carried 69.7 million vehicles in 2025 alone. To learn more, visit the exhibit “Three Boroughs, One Bridge: 90 Years of the Triborough Bridge” at Grand Central Terminal.

Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani
For working New Yorkers, every minute matters. But for too long, our buses have been stuck in traffic instead of keeping pace with the city that never sleeps.  Today, I'm proud to unveil Next Step — our roadmap to faster, more reliable bus service across all five boroughs. We'll increase bus speeds by up to 20%, and save riders as much as six minutes on their daily commute. We're also expanding accessible bus stops, adding more shelters and seating, strengthening bus lane enforcement, improving real-time arrival information, and building the next generation of bus corridors with protected bus lanes, greener streets, and faster, more frequent service. Every minute a New Yorker spends waiting for a late bus is time away from family, work, school, or rest. This plan is about giving people that time back, and building a city that works better for the people who keep it running.

Buses can only move as fast as traffic allows, so improving service for riders takes everyone pulling in the same direction. Here is a look at some of the biggest improvements riders can expect: 1️⃣ 50 Priority Bus Corridors Improvements across all five boroughs will target the routes where riders need them most, including new bus lanes, transit signal priority, queue jumps and other street improvements designed to keep buses moving. 2️⃣ A Modern Bus Fleet More than 2,500 new buses will replace over 40% of the current fleet, bringing newer, more reliable and more accessible buses to riders across the city. 3️⃣ Better Bus Stops Hundreds of bus stops will receive upgrades, including new shelters, seating, accessibility improvements and expanded real-time arrival information—making it easier for riders to know when their bus is coming before it arrives. 4️⃣ Keeping Bus Lanes Clear Expanded bus lane enforcement will help reduce delays caused by illegally parked and standing vehicles, keeping buses moving and improving reliability. Together, these investments are expected to make bus trips up to 20% faster while improving reliability for millions of riders.

Headed to watch the Brazil v. Norway match today at NYNJ Stadium? Public transit is the best way to get there ⚽️ The MTA can connect you to World Cup transportation options, including official NYNJ Stadium shuttle buses and NJ Transit rail service. Look for MTA customer ambassadors at major transit hubs, including Penn Station and Grand Central, if you need assistance before/after the match.
