The few who were not, later redeployed elsewhere. 5th Bdge was directly funded from the PM's budget. The PM's office was separate from Defence. Our salaries got processed by SSB, 5 Bgde by PM's office.

PM's budget wasn't debated in parliament hence wasn't part of voted funds. Why I say it wasn't an army unit is as Captain in 1986 I tried to have 5 Bdge guys disciplined for not saluting me instead I got reprimanded.

It was state-funded & state-sanctioned. Reporting directly to the PM under state of emergency powers, isn’t “non-army”—it’s centralised control withiut usual checks
