@bangkokaussie Well I’ve just switched to the public health system from private. Luckily I can wake up at 4am and ‘check in’ on the app then turn up for my 9am appointment that I’ll sit around waiting for until ~ 1pm. Thanks to the free WiFi, I can get on with lots of things during that time 😂

Oh dear, another finance/tech bro with the hot take. I’m guessing he hasn’t gone to Chula at 5am then…
A.J. Button@AJButton2

The vast majority of Asian healthcare systems are better than those in the West. I have seen it first hand in Thailand 🇹🇭. In the West you have either “free” healthcare with 10 month wait lists like in Canada, or $1,000 monthly insurance and $100,000 medical debts like the U.S. In Bangkok you pay 50 bucks a month for *GOOD* insurance. If you don’t want the monthly cost, you’ll pay a few bucks out of pocket for doctor visits, or $100-ish to see a specialist. Scale tops out at a few thousand for the most complex surgeries. Despite the low cost, you sacrifice nothing in terms of quality of care or wait times in Thailand. Thai doctors and nurses are world class, and many Thai hospitals are like luxury resorts. You can walk into a doctor’s office and be seen by a general practitioner in minutes. If you book a specialist (e.g. psychiatrist, dermatologist) you’ll be seen in a few days. Consider this contrast: In the part of Canada I’m from, the wait time for psychiatrists is about 1 year. In Thailand you can see one less than a week after calling. The Thai psychiatrist will in many cases be just as well educated as the Canadian one. The advantages of the Thai healthcare system are so immense that a whole cottage industry of medical tourism has emerged here. People literally MOVE to Thailand for YEARS at a time, just to get good affordable healthcare! It’s no wonder why. You can come to Thailand and get your braces, physiotherapy or surgery more quickly than you would in Canada or Europe, and more cheaply than in the USA. In fact, I’d argue that healthcare in Thailand is also cheaper than in countries with “free” heath care, because a health insurance plan that covers all procedures you can think of here, of costs about the same as the plans that covers just drugs in Canada. It’s a night and day difference.

Let me read you the MAGA checklist. 👇🏼 We were going to release the Epstein files. Until Trump showed up in the Epstein files. So we bombed people to distract from them. We bombed a school in Iran with young kids in it. We built Alligator Alcatraz — a sewage-backed penitentiary for immigrants in Florida — and laughed about it on camera. We kidnapped children and didn't know where we were sending them. We manipulated the markets. Repeatedly. We accepted a $400 million jet as a bribe and kept it after leaving office. We excoriated allies who stood with us for over a century. Threatened to attack a NATO country. Treated Canada like an enemy. We came after the First, Fourth, Fifth, and Fourteenth Amendment rights of American citizens. Every price in America went up because of the tariffs. Then came the tax bill - if you make a million dollars or more — $7,000 benefit. If you make $50,000 or less — we're taking $500 away from you. But here's what's finally moving the needle: Gas prices. It turns out the red line for MAGA is $8 a gallon going into the 250th birthday of America. Nobody wants to grill hot dogs and explain to their kids why it costs $120 to fill the tank. The approval ratings are going into the gutter. And he doesn't care. That's the part that should terrify everyone.

There are 240 million Muslims in Indonesia, our neighbour with whom we recently signed a defence pact. They are the largest Muslim nation. They wish only to live in peace with us. Hanson, a toxic mix of ignorance, stupidity, bigotry and racism, has insulted every one of them.

Thailand is now a major focus in the fallout surrounding Chen Zhi’s Prince Group. The Anti-Money Laundering Office has confirmed coordination with international partners after U.S. authorities alleged the network used Thailand as a base for laundering and logistics. Thai media have reported that investigators are tracing financial connections between Prince-linked entities and local companies. One Bangkok company, Prince International Co., Ltd., lists its office at Sino-Thai Tower and uses the same branding while denying any affiliation with Chen Zhi’s network. Whether coincidence or cover, investigators will have to decide. If links are proven, Thailand could become the first ASEAN country to freeze assets tied to the Prince Group.

@PaulieStewart I remember this very well, and was friends with your sister Annie back in the day. Such a shameful cover up with no repercussions. There were so many more there that were never documented, too. The world looked away.

Former leader, billionaire populist, mastermind — Thaksin Shinawatra has defined Thai politics since the turn of the century. He engineered his dynasty's return to power, only to risk losing it all again. Is this the beginning of the end? Our Big Take 🎁: bloomberg.com/news/features/…

A video clip showing a woman, identified as an Israeli citizen, refusing to respect the rules of a restaurant on Koh Phangan has gone viral after the tourist in the clip refuses to remove her shoes before entering the premises. Se was told by a Thai restaurant keeper she's not welcomed at the restaurant, only to be told: "but my money, okay, builds your country." The clip, first shared by Turkish public broadcaster TRT World on May 5, has gone viral and attracted many comments. Later on, an Israeli Tourist Agency posted a message in Hebrew saying the quote of the tourist was taken out of context as the tourist meant to say that he money "help build" Thailand. #Thailand #KohPhangan #israel #IsraelinThailand

@john_gravino @TheEconomist The U.S. is already the loser if you understand anything about supply chains, and it’s not just China. As for slaves, where did US wealth come from in the first place 🙄

@TheEconomist I'm pretty sure Chinese slaves can't afford our products even without tariffs. But can China survive without the American market???? With 70 countries ready to negotiate with Trump, we can buy from other countries. China LOSES this trade war.
