Dear RJ💙 When you were three a developmental pediatrician diagnosed you with autism and told you all the things that you would NEVER do or be. One of the things that she said is that you would never have meaningful employment and all we heard was basically that your life wouldn’t have much meaning… Well, here you are 9 seasons in with an organization that gave you a shot at employment and gave your life meaning and purpose and now you have TWO World Series rings with your name on them!! 🎉🙏🏽🏆🏆 You work so hard. You grind and grind and always have a hug for everybody in the organization, whether it’s after a tough game or you’re unpacking the team at four in the morning …no matter what you always bring joy to that clubhouse. You’re so passionate about your job. You went from having no friends as a child to having a whole club house full of buddies who love you and care for you like family. There are two choices on your ballot to be the next NC Superintendent of Public Instruction. It's an enormous job. The leader will guide the education of over 1.3 million students and administer an $11 billion annual budget. Do you want that leader to have some experience?

On behalf of the Ukrainian people, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and close ones of the 9/11 victims. We join our key ally, the United States, and the entire American people in today’s commemoration of those who perished as a result of this heinous crime. We honor all of those who worked tirelessly in the aftermath of the attack to help others, often sacrificing their lives to do so. We mourn alongside you, our American friends. We, Ukrainians, are all too familiar with the pain and grief of families who have lost loved ones as a result of terror. We are determined to defend our common values against terror and aggression. Every peace-loving nation and every family deserves to live in safety. We must and will stand together with our allies to ensure this. Terror must never go unpunished.

Are there songs that can move you to tears? If so, you aren’t alone. Music can evoke particularly strong feelings - and you don’t have to be an adult to experience its power. So many of you have shared this video with me over the last several weeks. And it’s just fascinating to watch. Here two-year-old Chase and his mother engage in negotiation over a bedtime song: You are My Sunshine. Recently the song has evoked strong emotions for Chase - so mom expresses some trepidation, not wanting to make him cry. But Chase - who appears to be all up in his feelings even as the video begins - is ready for the emotional release he knows the song will bring. My favorite part of this whole video is his little grin when he suggests he won’t cry. He knows full well that it’s coming. And so does mom. Music activates the limbic system, increasing blood flow to regions in the brain responsible for controlling emotion. And can be an aid in helping us regulate our emotions - whether young or old. I love that Chase can identify how he’s feeling and what he needs to release and resolve it. That’s emotional maturity we could all benefit from from time to time. We do this cowardly thing as a society. We reflect on past historical failures with full acknowledgement of their devastation. We don’t mince words. We speak directly. BUT, when stuff is happening in *real time* we’re mealy-mouthed or silent waiting for it to be over to step up.
