Clarification on My Political Position
We have noted recent media reports and discussions suggesting a possible realignment within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) due to the current challenges facing the party.
In light of the misleading narratives in the public domain, I wish to state categorically that no final decision has been taken regarding my political future or that of my political associates.
The recent Supreme Court judgment, while affirming the legitimacy of the David Mark-led National Working Committee (NWC), also remitted the matter back to the High Court. This has left the party in a precarious position.
In addition, the Federal High Court has recently ruled to delegitimise the party’s recent convention. The Attorney General of the Federation has also strangely applied to a Federal High Court to deregister the ADC.
We left the NNPP due to externally influenced legal problems that made our stay perilous. The ADC has now been also forced into this difficulty.
Consequently, like other major stakeholders, we have commenced wide-ranging consultations — including with leaders from the NDC, PRP and others to explore the best options for protecting our democratic interests. We shall announce our decision in the soonest possible time.
On the issue of presidential candidacy, I wish to recall my consistent record as a committed democrat. In the 2014 APC presidential primary, I came second to President Muhammadu Buhari (whom I fully supported to victory), with Atiku Abubakar third, Rochas Okorocha fourth, and the late Sam Nda-Isaiah fifth. Similarly, in 2019, I contested the PDP presidential ticket and immediately supported the winner, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, serving as the campaign’s coordinator in the North. I have always placed national interest and party unity above personal ambition.
Furthermore, the ADC is yet to zone its presidential ticket or take any decision on a candidate. I have therefore neither declared any intention to run for president nor endorsed any aspirant. All speculations to the contrary are premature and unfounded.
My absence from the two recent ADC stakeholders’ meetings was due to unavoidable personal commitments. I promptly communicated my apologies to the party leadership.
We shall continue to engage constructively at all levels. Any definitive position on our political direction will be communicated formally through official channels at the appropriate time.

COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE ADC NATIONAL YOUTH CHAMPIONS SEMINAR & PROSPECTIVE LEGISLATIVE SUMMIT
Held on April 29, 2026 | ADC National Headquarters, Abuja
The African Democratic Congress (ADC), through its vibrant Youth Constituency, successfully convened a historic and action-driven National Youth Champions Seminar and Prospective Legislative Summit, bringing together party leaders, youth champions, aspirants, and stakeholders from across Nigeria.
This gathering was not a routine political event—it was a defining moment of ideological clarity, institutional reaffirmation, and collective resolve toward rescuing Nigeria and repositioning our great party for victory in the 2027 general elections.
After extensive deliberations, reflections on the keynote address delivered by Comrade Balarabe Rufa’i, the powerful call to action by the National Woman Leader, Hon. Naomi Lasara Abel, Former ADC chairman Dr Ralph Nwosu and others prominent speakers.
The summit hereby issues the following communiqué:
The summit unequivocally reaffirms that the Constitution of the ADC remains supreme, binding, and non-negotiable. The provisions guaranteeing youth inclusion—specifically the reservation of governorship, senatorial, and state assembly tickets—are not symbolic promises but enforceable rights. The youth of this party are not seeking permission to participate; they are asserting a constitutional mandate that must be implemented without dilution or delay.
Participants collectively called on the National Working Committee, under the leadership of Distinguished Senator David Mark, to rise to this historic responsibility by upholding the party’s constitutional provisions in full. The credibility of the ADC as a truly progressive platform will be measured not by rhetoric, but by the courage to enforce inclusion and fairness across all levels.
The summit strongly endorsed the institutional reforms proposed by the National Youth Leader, including the immediate establishment of the Youth Aspirants Screening Committee , Youth Opinion Poll Committee, and the Youth Leaders Advisory Committee on INEC and Litigations. These structures are critical to ensuring transparency, internal democracy, legal preparedness, and strategic grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.
In alignment with the position of the National Woman Leader, the summit reaffirmed that inclusive leadership is not optional but essential. Women, youths, and persons with disabilities must be given real opportunities to lead and participate meaningfully in governance. The 35% affirmative action principle must translate into tangible political power, not mere declarations.
The summit also used this platform to send a clear and uncompromising message to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Any attempt to undermine, intimidate, or unlawfully deregister opposition parties—particularly the ADC—constitutes a direct assault on democracy and the fundamental rights of Nigerians.
We categorically reject any form of political repression, institutional manipulation, or autocratic overreach designed to silence credible opposition voices. Nigeria is a constitutional democracy, not a one-party state.
Let it be clearly stated: any attempt to exclude the ADC from the ballot in 2027 is an attempt to disenfranchise millions of Nigerians who believe in credible alternatives. Such actions will not only be resisted within the bounds of the law but will fundamentally call into question the legitimacy of the electoral process itself.
The ADC remains a critical pillar of democratic opposition, and its presence on the ballot is non-negotiable. There can be no credible, free, or fair election without the participation of all duly registered political parties. Democracy must be protected from those seeking to weaken it for political convenience.
The summit concluded with a renewed commitment from the youth constituency

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) wishes to state, clearly and unequivocally, that we remain focused on our mission to rescue Nigeria from the failure of the APC-led government and to prevent the dangerous slide toward a one-party state.
We have taken note of recent suggestions that the ADC will not produce candidates in the 2027 elections. We find such claims to be entirely unfounded, mischievous, and designed to create confusion where none exists. They have no basis in law, in fact, or in the reality of our preparations as a political party.
The ADC will present candidates in the 2027 general elections. Not just candidates, but credible, competent, and nationally acceptable candidates who are capable of leading this country out of its current crisis.
We remain a law-abiding political party, fully compliant with the Constitution and the Electoral Act. There is no legal impediment to our participation in the 2027 elections, and any suggestion to the contrary is a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and dampen the growing momentum around our party.
The ADC stands today as the primary opposition platform in Nigeria, and we take that responsibility seriously. We are not distracted by noise. We are focused on the real work, organising across the country, mobilising Nigerians who are tired of insecurity, rising costs of living, and limited opportunities, and building the structures required not just to contest, but to win.
We urge our members, supporters, and all well-meaning Nigerians to disregard these baseless assertions. The task before us is too important to be derailed by speculation.

ADC SUSPICIOUS OF SUPREME COURT DELAY IN JUDGEMENT PETITION CHIEF JUSTICE
The tension is no longer quiet—it is beginning to feel like a slow fracture at the heart of justice.
In a move heavy with urgency and consequence, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally petitioned the Supreme Court of Nigeria, directing its appeal to the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria. Their message is not wrapped in diplomacy—it is a warning.
According to the party, the prolonged delay in delivering a ruling on its internal dispute is no longer just procedural—it is dangerous. They argue that every passing day deepens uncertainty, fuels instability within the party structure, and risks triggering what they describe as “irreparable harm.” Not just to their political future, but to the credibility of judicial timeliness itself.
Behind the legal language lies something more human: a growing sense of abandonment by a system meant to provide clarity. Political actors remain suspended in limbo, reputations hang in question, and democratic processes risk distortion when justice is perceived as distant or delayed.
Yet, the ADC’s petition does more than complain—it forces a confrontation. It raises a difficult but necessary question: when justice is delayed at the highest level, who holds time accountable?
The stakes here stretch beyond one party’s internal conflict. This moment quietly tests the strength of institutional trust in Nigeria. If the court speaks too late, even the right judgment may arrive stripped of its power to heal.
And that is the real danger the ADC is pointing to—not just losing a case, but losing faith in the system meant to resolve it.

FLASH: Two days after PRP has indicated interest to join a coalition to field a single Candidate, a faction allegedly backed by Tinubu's APC has emerged and rejects the Abuja Convention that produced Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, alleging attempted party hijack.
They're doing everything to ensure that the 2027 election doesn't happen.
