Tourism Guru @wekesa_amos fears that if parliament passes the Protection of Sovereignty bill in it's current form, the tourism sector will be most hit. "There are international hotels and businesses seeking to set up shop in Uganda. What do you think they are thinking now? The Sovereignty bill will kill international trade" he adds.

.@cobbo3 do you remember the phrase from the Clinton 92 campaign for the US Presidency that sunk George H. W? Why the architects & champions of this did not seek counsel of those who know is mind boggling. This embarrassment that the #SovereigntyBill has become could have been avoided well in advance🤷🏿‍♂️

"Chairman, a country without reserves is not sovereign. The potential of this Bill to destabilize Uganda’s balance of payments is our primary concern as a central bank. For example, last financial year the overall balance of payment surplus was USD 1.5 billion. That’s how we were able to increase our reserve coverage by USD 1.5 billion. Today as we speak our reserves are close to USD 6 billion. Why? Because these inflows have been coming in. The moment you tamper with these inflows here, we risk running down our reserves, and that is economic disaster for a country.” Governor Atingi-Ego on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026 in an appearance before Parliament today.

Ben Affleck sold his AI startup to Netflix for $600 million last month. One month later, he "gifted" Jennifer Lopez his $30 million stake in a mansion that's been sitting unsold for two years. This is the most rational financial decision in recent celebrity divorce history. The mansion was purchased for $60.85 million in cash in June 2023. Listed at $68 million in July 2024. Price cut to $52 million. Zero buyers. Pulled from the market entirely. The asset has been bleeding carrying costs and depreciating for 22 months straight. When you just cleared nine figures from a Netflix acquisition, the calculus on a stuck luxury property changes completely. At Affleck's new net worth, that $30 million stake is roughly 5% of his liquid position. Meanwhile, every month that mansion sits unsold, there are property taxes, insurance, maintenance, and security on 38,000 square feet with 24 bathrooms and an 80-car parking lot. Split ownership with your ex-wife means you're paying half those costs on a property you'll never live in again while having zero control over the sale timeline. Gifting the stake does three things at once. It eliminates his ongoing carrying costs immediately. It gives Lopez sole decision-making power, which actually makes the property easier to sell because there's no longer two-party negotiation on price and timing. And it gets classified as a property transfer incident to divorce, which means different tax treatment than a sale. The PR framing is "generous gesture." The actual move is a guy who just made $600 million looking at a $30 million liability with negative optionality and walking away from it. This isn't generosity. It's portfolio management.

Chimpanzees are highly social animals with complex group dynamics.   What’s being reported may sound alarming, but this kind of behaviour, while rare, is not new or unnatural. It has been observed and studied in primate research over time.   This is nature, real, structured, and deeply understood. @CNN @cnnbrk #ExploreUganda | #KibaleIsReal |#ChimpWarsUganda

She became a sacrificial lamb. Other ministers were also found in possession of iron sheets meant for vulnerable people in Karamoja. Kitutu, the former minister and her boss who sanctioned the giveaway of the iron sheets, was exonerated. Police also found Kitutu’s brother-in-law with the same type of iron sheets, but she was exonerated for that as well. In Rugolobi’s case, there was evidence that he had used the iron sheets to roof his goat house, but due to pressure from voters, he was also exonerated. This is selective prosecution.
Daily Monitor@DailyMonitor

JUST IN: The Anti-Corruption Court has convicted former State Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Agnes Nandutu, over the diversion of 2,000 iron sheets meant for vulnerable communities in the Karamoja sub-region. Court found that Nandutu knowingly received and retained government property that was not lawfully allocated to her and which she had reason to believe had been irregularly diverted from a public programme intended for vulnerable beneficiaries. Her bail has been cancelled as she's remanded to Luzira Prison until Friday this week for sentencing, Juliet Kigongo reports. #MonitorUpdates

It’s either my uncle Waruthu is heavily bewitched… or the man is the luckiest dropout kikuyu in the history of Kenya. This man dropped out in Class 6. No degree. No biashara. No master plan. Just inherited land and some anointed timing. He starts in Kingeero with a plot left by his father. Then boom Western Bypass construction comes slicing through it, then KeNHA appears and tells him, “Waruthu, kindly move, but first collect your 16 million.” Now a serious man would sit down, call a fundi, maybe an architect, maybe even think of rentals, biashara, mabati ya tenants, something sensible. Not Waruthu. Waruthu buys land in Gitaru for 4 million, puts up a 3-bedroom house, then takes the rest of the money and launches a one-man campaign of alcohol, women and complete financial vandalism. The man did not spend money. He attacked it. Two years later, before the dust even settles, KeNHA returns again. This time for the Gitaru-Kikuyu interchange. I’m not joking. Same man. Same story. Same government. Another cheque. 19 million. At this point you stop calling it luck. This is now a calling. He moves to Manguo near Limuru town, buys about three-quarter acre, builds again for around 4 million, then does exactly what he had done before. Not almost. Not roughly. Exactly. House first, then the balance is taken hostage by bars, women and enjoyment until nothing remains except memories and hangovers. Any other human being would learn. Waruthu? Waruthu behaves like a man who thinks compensation is a monthly salary. Then last November Ruto launches the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Road project. Now tell me why this man’s land is again sitting next to the highway like it had been booked in advance. Again the government comes. Again they acquire. Again Waruthu is paid. This time 25 million. You people, there are men who hustle for 20 years and never smell 5 million. This fool has made a full career out of being removed by road projects. He doesn’t farm. He doesn’t build wealth. He doesn’t invest. He just keeps positioning himself where tarmac will eventually develop feelings. The last report we got was that he had moved to Ponda Mali in Nakuru. Either there’s a powerful mganga somewhere blessing his land papers… or God has a very twisted sense of humour when it comes to my uncle. The man is turning Kenyan infrastructure into his personal ATM. Respect. 😂

🚨 Lumumba, one of DR Congo’s most iconic fans, was denied a visa and couldn’t travel to Mexico for the play-off final against Jamaica. 🇨🇩❌ So he did what he always does — stood for the full 120 minutes in front of a giant screen in his neighbourhood in Kinshasa, watching his country qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 52 years. 👏😍 We NEED to see Lumumba at the World Cup. 🇨🇩👏 STAND UP for his pure dedication and his pure passion.

Proud to have been part of the core team that organized the #RREyeCampBukedea! Over 6 days, we transformed lives by restoring sight to 507 people — 306 males, 201 females, and 34 children. The overwhelming turnout in Bukedea forced us to extend the camp, proving just how deep the need for accessible eye care runs in our communities. Huge thanks to the @RupareliaFoundation and all our partners, the dedicated doctors, volunteers, and every patient who showed up. Restoring vision = restoring hope and dignity. Together, we made a real difference! #RREyeCampBukedea #RupareliaFoundation

Today I was in Kampala for Dr. Kizza Besigye's case scheduling. The prosecution has failed to fully disclose its evidence in total disobedience of a court order to do so. Instead, on the 11th of March 2026, they filed an application seeking permission to conceal the identity of one of their six witnesses and the court, in the absence of the defence, proceeded to fix this application for hearing today. We as the defence protested this preferential treatment of the prosecution. The court failed to account for the defence's right to peruse the application and to respond to it adequately. This is not a procedural technicality, it is a matter of fundamental fairness. An accused person must know the case against him and who his accuser is in order to prepare his defence. That is a right. We return to court on the 31st of March. Dr. Besigye is 69 years old and has been in remand for over 500 days, a period that has greatly compromised his health. The prosecution's unwarranted delays are punitive. And they will not go unchallenged. Aluta Continua. #FreeBesigye

It has been 465 days since Dr. Kizza Besigye was abducted from Nairobi. Today in Kampala, I appeared before Justice Dr. Emmanuel Baguma, as lead counsel for Dr. Kizza Besigye. It is disheartening to see how his health is deteriorating. To @Winnie_Byanyima your strength in the face of what your family is enduring is humbling. It steels my resolve. The struggle for democratic space anywhere on this continent is a collective responsibility, and I will continue to do my part to fight for people’s rights in Kenya and beyond.
