
True but it was a much more complicated mission with many more moving parts and interfered with by the weather (a desert dust storm). It involved all branches of the service not just the Navy. Carter was hardly a “stain on the Navy” or feckless. There is a significant issue historically how Regan’s operatives were involved for political purposes with the failure of the negotiations. Carter was certainly right about oil dependence. Carter started no wars and we have now lost at least 16 service men and hundreds millions of dollars in equipment in this war of choice. But god bless our troops and the relative and the success of this mission.
