RAM is expensive these days :’/
Found a KVM bug that lets the guest eat the host’s RAM, but the guest itself loses nothing. That memory is never returned to the host - a permanent leak.
Maybe this bug, someone could just drain entire physical host RAM of some cloud provider

I'm unsure if it was data only or if it included (111) calling. Maybe we can blame this on Nokia too given Spark's NOC was outsourced to Nokia not long before this :)

@haydenmalc Why Australia in particular though? Seems like policy settings between Aus and NZ aren’t that different and NZ is much smaller, but the emergency phone number doesn’t go down all the time in NZ like it does here

@shaurizard With VA panels even on the best TVs I find the inconsistent response times to be painful (dark to dark is significantly slower than light to light, so dark areas smear much more than light).
Also hard to measure how strongly the local dimming algorithm is nerfed w/ game mode

Bravia 9II unfortunately has horrific pixel response times & smearing. Unfortunately still that little gap between MiniLED sets at the high end vs. oled setups in universal performance
Even more annoying since theres the reverse issue in the high-end for PC productivity tasks...

@taipan168 It’s still an extra step though having to get a QR code to show. I dont know what Singapore does but once you fill out your arrivals card it’s automatically linked into the system with your passport going thru the auto gate. It wont open if you haven’t done it.

Perfect. It makes sense to integrate the digital arrivals card into airlines' apps because much of the data can be pre-filled.
And the paper forms will continue to be available for the Luddites, conspiracy theorists and troglodytes.

@Aimee_exe_ The artists I came across still had their signage in AUD though, they just charged a converted AUD price.
I guess you would still get hit by your bank's foreign txn fee / exchange rate, but it wasn't that bad (I remember last year someone straight up had price signs up in USD)

@oscarcsims @haydenmalc so my understanding is the side of Nokia Networks that actually makes the radios/basebands/etc. is very different from the side that does the outsourced management. This side operates more like a generic consulting company.

Yeah, the difference between economy and premium economy on Cathay is minimal. Especially if you’re in the 2-4-2 B777 configuration.

So your only beef with Cathay’s premium economy was that they served wine in paper cups and the dunnies were shared with economy? Nothing about the comfort of the seat, which is the main thing?
And what kind of sook would ask the crew for wine to be served in a glass instead?

@taipan168 @BhagsNStonks Wise is useful for getting a local bank account number though. Once in France they would only refund my cancelled train to an IBAN. Whilst in theory I could use an Australian IBAN, it's much easier and zero fees to use Wise IBAN then immediately spend those Euros using Wise card.

@BhagsNStonks If you pay for accommodation, car hire etc. with the Wise card, it could be quite a bit. That said, I don't have a Wise card, I just use the Macquarie one for debit and a BankWest card for credit.

Rumor has it that the A20 Pro will move away from the 64bit bandwidth Apple has used for 13 years and adopt a 96bit memory bus.
This will dramatically improve the performance of memory bound local LLMs (on device Siri).

iPhone 18 Pro or (Prm) motherboard leaked A20 Pro chip now adopt WMCM packaging, which move the DRAM to the side of the package, allowing for better thermal dissipation. It also get LP6 96-bit memory Die size is roughly the same as A19 Pro, and the NPU seems to be beefed up

@LhymeFruit @FrameworkPuter if you want really cheap though, the first 3 gens of framework intel boards can be had cheap second hand (as people upgrade to 13 Pro), and they all take DDR4 as well.

@LhymeFruit @FrameworkPuter Even the Ryzen 7040 series boards they launched nearly 3 years ago only support DDR5. They would have to go for even older CPUs to get DDR4 support.
