This afternoon I joined the late Ms. Lydia Jebiwott’s family and the Highrise community to condole with them following her passing. Together with friends, colleagues, and well-wishers, we stood in unity to comfort and support the family during this difficult moment. Lydia served with dedication as a Curator at the @museumsofkenya contributing greatly to the preservation and promotion of our shared heritage. Her commitment, professionalism and passion for culture will always be remembered. During this time of grief, we remain united in prayer, love and support for her family and all who were touched by her life.

On 7 March 2026, Ondřej Šimek, Deputy Head of Mission at the EU Delegation to Kenya, visited Lamu Old Town. Accompanied by family ,he toured Lamu Museum, Swahili House Museum, and Lamu Fort, experiencing the rich cultural heritage of one of the best-preserved Swahili settlements.

Our Board Chair, Edwin Abonyo, alongside Prof Manthi and other museum representatives, joined fellow Board Chairs and CEOs to reaffirm NMK’s commitment to accountability, results-driven service, and advancing Kenya’s heritage and culture.

Presided over by CS Hannah W. Cheptumo and joined by PS Ummi Bashir, the FY 2025/2026 Performance Contracts for the Ministry of Gender, Culture & Children Services were signed.

Held a productive meeting at the @museumsofkenya with the Equity Bank management team to explore collaboration. Discussions focused on Heritage-Based Enterprises, green energy, digitization, MSME training, and bankable projects with lasting impact.

Kenya continues to position itself as a continental leader in the protection and promotion of geoheritage. As I officially closed a week long PanAfGeo+ training yesterday evening in Kabarnet, I was proud to see our country host experts and partners including UNESCO, the European Union, and leading Geological Surveys in a programme that strengthens Africa’s scientific capacity and resilience. As a nation, we recognize that geoheritage is an integral part of our cultural and natural heritage. From our escarpments and volcanic landscapes to our fossil sites and lakes, these are not just physical features — they are national assets that tell the story of humanity, climate evolution, and Kenya’s rich natural endowment. Through strong policy frameworks, collaboration with institutions such as the @museumsofkenya and the Geological Survey of Kenya, and alignment with global standards under the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, we are safeguarding these resources for education, research, sustainable tourism, and community livelihoods. We commend Governor Benjamin Cheboi, EBS, EGH for spearheading Baringo’s progress toward geopark status. These efforts wich the Ministry of Gender, Culture and Children Services fully support, are part of a broader national vision: to ensure that heritage conservation drives sustainable development across Kenya. Together, as national and county governments, institutions, communities, and global partners, we are building a future where Kenya’s landscapes are protected, celebrated, and transformed into engines of opportunity for generations to come.
