One of the hardest truths I’ve had to face in my oncology practice is that a patient’s chance at survival can depend on their ability to pay not the stage of their disease, not the urgency of their condition, but the ability to raise money to afford essential services.
I’ve watched families plead at the reception desk, clutching at referral notes and hope in equal measure, only to be told “hakuna matibabu bila pesa .” Meanwhile, the tumour doesn’t wait for pay day or SHA to work.
Even in cancer care, where time is literally life, access often depends on finances. I’ve seen mothers turned away from chemotherapy because they couldn’t raise a few thousand shillings. I’ve watched young men lose their battles because radiotherapy was too expensive or the LINAC machine has been broken for months on end. Often I have not been able to prescribe immunotherapy for patients when I knew that’s what the latest evidence suggests I give because I knew they wouldn’t afford it or it’s not even available.
And as doctors, we stood there frustrated, hearts heavy bound by policy, procedure and systems we didn’t design.
No one fighting cancer should also have to fight poverty to stay alive.💔

For your information this is an orthopedic specialist, i've worked with him for over 2 years.
The drill case is here, patient amestarve for over 16 hours na bado hajeingia theater ju drill ni moja tu.
Mr. Ortho 🇰🇪@brian_bogee
You prepare theatre list, starve the patient the whole day then later you cancel the list due to lack of drill, saa hiyo patient relatives wanajaa ngori juu you didn’t attend to their patien, but politicians wako na pesa ya kuhire helicopters but they can’t buy equipments. 🥲

Portable mechanical ventilator ni moja hosi mzima.
Kuna siku tulibaki tukibag alternating na nurse ju ambulance ilikuwa imeendea ICU's only portable mechanical ventilator ndio tutumie kwa mtoto alikuwa amecode.
Luckily kuna patient GC yake huko ICU ilikuwa imeimprove na wanaplan kumstep down.
Walichukua yake mbio mbio tukaletewa. Set it up quickly and helped saved the child.
Nilitoka hio scenario nimebeat na nimejam mbaya sana. Sahizo unaskia Ksh 11 billions za SHA zimekunywa maji.

@zablonorina1 For me, this remains Uhuru's most unforgivable sin. Sabotaging and derailing CoK2010 only to leave office and start playing victim.

The 2010 Constitution envisioned an independent police service.
Then a small crisis became the excuse to tighten control thanks to Uhuru Kenyatta.
Slowly, power shifted. Quietly, independence eroded.
Today, the police answer upward to the Executive not outward to citizens.
That’s why goons roam free. What we are witnessing in Kikuyu is unfortunate.
There is a pattern to all these things events.
When the law stops protecting the public, disorder isn’t accidental, it’s inevitable.

@waikwawanyoike The subtext of your proposal is that the average voter is so dumb to make rational decisions that a few "annointed" seers should filter the choices for them.
