I congratulate The Very Rev. Canon Dunstan and Rev. Canon Lovincer Mazinga on marking 25 years in Holy Matrimony today. Like I did 25 years ago as the best man, I still did today at their thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral Namirembe. I first met The Very Rev. Canon Dunstan Kiwanuka Mazinga when we were students of the Bachelor of Divinity at Uganda Christian University. We were among the pioneer students. What struck me about Dunstan was his humility. He was already a graduate secondary school teacher, trained in Sciences, but he remained calm, steady, and committed to his Christian life. Like what the American Scholar, Robert Greenleaf said, “Humility is not self-degradation, it is a source of power.” This made Dunstan gain much respect both from those younger and older than him. At UCU, Lovincer was also a student. She was a humble young lady and serious about her salvation. In time, Dunstan and Lovincer started relating more closely, and it became clear that they were building a relationship grounded in faith and respect for one another, which would in the long run end into a family. When Dunstan went for the introduction at Mr. Maata’s home, I was part of the team that accompanied him. That morning, I took kasuze katya and received Lovincer. Later, I served as best man at their wedding, while I was Vicar at St Andrews and St Philips Cathedral, Mukono. The wedding day had one memorable moment. The groom’s vehicle delayed, so I brought the Vicar’s Honda 250 motorcycle. Dunstan sat on it, and I rode slowly to ensure he arrived. It was simple, but it worked. Everytime I remember this scenario, I ask myself why the younger generation is very much fascinated with borrowing very expensive cars on their weddings at the expense of saving the little resources for their marriage. For Dunstan, it was simple, and precise; just my Honda. I believe he enjoyed it. Over the years, Dunstan and Lovincer have continued walking together faithfully. Both are teachers. Today, Dunstan is the Dean of St Paul’s Cathedral, Namirembe, and Lovincer is an ordained Minister, a Reverend Canon serving as Chaplain at Mengo Senior School. I am very grateful to God that their marriage has been peaceful because in the 25 years as their bestman I have never been invited to solve any misunderstandings or heard any of the two complaining about the unfaithfulness of the partner. Before they reached 25 years of marriage, Dunstan organized us to visit Lovincer’s parents to thank them for raising a disciplined and God-fearing daughter. During that visit, we reflected on how far God had brought everyone. During that function, Rev. James Ssebaggala, who was the spokesperson during their introduction, had by then become a bishop. Rev. Stephen Kaziimba, who had been best man, was also already a bishop and now Archbishop, by the grace of God. As Dunstan and Lovincer celebrate 25 years of their marriage, I am grateful to have witnessed their journey from the beginning. We give thanks to God for sustaining them through every season of life and ministry. Their journey reminds us that marriage is not simply a human effort, but a work of God’s grace. Looking back over these years, we can confidently say together, “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy” (Psalm 126:3). May God continue to strengthen their home and use their example to encourage many other couples. Maama Margaret and I together with our entire family join with gratitude in this celebration and continue to pray that the Almighty God continues to bless Dunstan and Lovincer in their marriage and ministry.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all. (Ecc 9:11) #Walukagga

youtu.be/UyuRIf8JryQ?si… How far did Christ travel to reach us? In this Advent reflection, we measure the “Incarnation distance” — not in km from Padibe to Kampala, nor from Kidera to Jinja, but from eternity into human flesh. Explores the meaning of Christ’s two natures…

After speaking on forgiveness (reading bits from this book), came this question: Step mum killed our father, stole our land - one square mile; then after many years of us languishing, she comes to ask for forgiveness: can you really forgive such?
