This book, by the great Sven Nyholm, is out next month, but you can see the TOC and Intro here right now!: hackettpublishing.com/the-ethics-of-… Great for those just starting out with the ethics of AI, and for early-level courses that include the subject. #AI

@_sen_sharmila I remember having a spirited conversation with Hilary Putnam right in that corner about the semantics of the term 'cool'.

Last night I discovered the philosophy library in Harvard Yard! I have been foolishly walking past this room since 1988 and never looked inside.

This is shockingly unprofessional behavior from someone who edits a magazine. Editorial discretion is a fundamental principle of publishing. It's baffling to see one publisher try to strongarm another one like this. @d_kodsi, this is an embarrassment to you & @philosophersmag.

“The tragedy of the contemporary academy is that even when traditional liberal learning clearly wins with students and donors, it loses with those in power,” writes Jennifer Frey, who created a liberal arts honors college. dailynous.com/2025/07/17/adm…

The death of Alastair MacIntyre prompts my semi-annual reminder of this incredible fact: Habermas is still alive.

@mxmcadam @JOANNAessayist I did reach out to OUP knowing any options would be a no-go. I get royalties from user downloads, etc. That’s the route they’ve gone: institutional subscription services. Le sigh. I’d 100% give up royalties for a cheaper edition. OUP has good royalties. I’d give them up totally.

@JOANNAessayist I also think the ramifications you list vary depending on SO MANY factors, you know? If my book were priced for individuals it might sell, I don't know, 10 more copies? But not like HUNDREDS more no matter how much I or anyone promoted it.

Not untrue for scholarly books. As an academic friend said to me once: “my friends aren’t reading my books.” Like Gertrude Stein said, scholars write for strangers and grad students. (What? She totally said that)
