@thekitze They tried to monetize incredibly early. Had no free plan until cursor had already cornered the market.

Okay, I started a pretty wild /goal with Codex, asking it to build an operating system, from scratch, inspired by Steve Jobs when he built NeXTSTEP. And looking it looks like we're close to the finish line, with over 7d of coding using GPT 5.5 xhigh. Super excited to see what it built, and then of course, refine from there. I'm not expecting Codex to one-shot an operating system. But I do hope it creates a good foundation. Creating my own operating system has been on my bucket list since college. Currently running broad verification and final scans. And I know @thsottiaux dared someone to used /goal to write a kernel - how about an entire OS Tibo? 🙋‍♂️

/goals is still running - Codex is actually building an operating system, from scratch, given inspiration from Steve Jobs when he built NEXT, but accelerated into the current timeline. I think it's going to run all night, could keep going all day tomorrow. Totally wild.

@larsencc Have to compete with top talent starting their own company. And you no longer need to hire anyone who isn't cracked.

Seeing SF comp move in real time is wild. A few weeks ago, inbound was 150-250k base. Now no one names a number below 200k. Top end is 400k + equity. Hiring great people just got harder than ever.

@zachtheoldham I always wonder if this is all part of a coming of age movie. SF might just be the best place

It’s very hard to describe the magic of the Bay Area to somebody that hasn’t spent time here There’s this renaissance-esque vibe to the entire place Work hard, have fun and build the future with the best and the brightest Explaining this would break my 2024 self’s brain

Every AWS Lambda invocation runs in a full VM that boots in under 125ms. Firecracker is the ~50,000 line Rust binary that makes that possible. I wrote an interactive blog about it, with components you can play with.

@morganlinton Kind of crazy if you think about how early they were. $500 a month on a dev tool sounded crazy to most people mid 2024. The pricing model is different now but it’s more than worth 500/mo
