MMA fans talk about “boring fights” as though they’re violations of the natural order...But what actually offends the viewer isn’t inactivity.
It’s the collapse of a story they’ve inherited.

@orthoanbheanin I am married, but the guys at my parish have trouble fining Orthodox wives because there are no Orthodox women to be found.
Evangelical women are where Orthodox men find wives.

Ilia Topuria has fought 1 time in the last 564 days.
Casual MMA@CasualMMAinc
Islam Makhachev has fought 1 time in the last 479 days

@mythsov @MMACHICK_ Another casual complaining about ‘wrestling’…. go and watch and kickboxing, boxing or Muay Thai, stop being casual filth, maybe try and train some jujitsu or wrestling and appreciate the meaning of ‘MIXED’ Martial Arts or don’t watch MMA at all. Simple.
English

@davetrees_ @MMACHICK_ In case it isn't clear, I'm not the one calling Islam boring. He's literally my favorite fighter.
English

@mythsov @MMACHICK_ just say you don’t watch mma bro. he outstriked dp, finished moicano in 1, had one of the greatest fights ever against volk, ko’d volk, submits charles after dropping him, dominated bobby green etc. guys get online and say stupid shit😂
English

@lookatmyopinion Agreed. There is an incentive at play. You can be a belt-less star and make lots of money.
Makes me wonder how prevalent that mentality is.
English

@Duke96226737 @PubWanghaf Makes sense. After spending a crazy weekend there I was checking out their endowment and everything made sense.
English

@mythsov @PubWanghaf I was there for law school, so I wasnt at any of the undergrad parties, but Bill Clinton showed up to their Red Square party one year, played sax, and banged a bunch of co-eds. I also feel obliged to mention that the law school has a Philip Morris conference room.

English

@Duke96226737 @PubWanghaf I didn't go to W&L, but I did go to parties there. It was legit like college parties in the movies.
That place is wild.
English

@PubWanghaf I went to Washington & Lee University and I had an Indian classmate hit reply all on a University wide email about Robert E Lee day and it was just an intelligible screed about sleeping on the graves of dead slaves.

Such a fascinating emergent trend because the actual inescapable millennial culture was MGMT Kids, Icona Pop I Love It, DJ Snake + Lil Jon Turn Down For What, Chainsmokers Closer, Foster The People Pumped Up Kicks. All the music attributed to us was made for ageing gen xers.

Anyone else 30-35 remember when we bemoaned that the previous decades all had a vibe except ours

@JimsTweets The government knows public school kids are not getting an education and they don't care.
English

Do Homeschool kids just like, not have to take tests or exams or get grades? How does the government know if the child is actually getting an education and not just like, being neglected
Maryam@hell_line0
The fact that Americans can just not send their kids to school and call it that “homeschooling” is crazy to me.
English

@lookatmyopinion That's certainly true, but team sports get the benefit of generational loyalty that combat sports generally don't.
Children will inherit a favorite team from their parents. You don't really see kids having GSP as their fav fighter because that was Dad's fav.
English

@mythsov American football leans into narratives pretty heavy. The consensus GOAT is Tom Brady and the main reasoning people use it championship victories in a sport with 22 separate positions and 3 phases of the game. Often times, teams are promoted as just quarterback matchup.
English

@lookatmyopinion I don't keep up with boxing as much, but generally human desire for narratives is pretty universal.
Sports marketing in general loves a story. Everything from Chess to NASCAR.
It's probably less true for team sports.
English

@lookatmyopinion I agree that is shouldn't be, but it is.
It's psychological issue. Violence without a story doesn't scratch the itch for the masses.
The UFC knows this' so they sell the story- the violence is secondary (at best).
Its a Myth of Violence (yuk yuk yuk).
English

@lookatmyopinion More or less, yeah.
My general thesis is that the competition is secondary to the narrative because the narrative is actually the product.
English

@lookatmyopinion My entire MMA blog is about cultural mythmaking and narratives- pro wrestling is the GOAT in that regard.
But there could be more to it.
English

@KurtSchlichter I used to work for CPS. We would often get reports about children being hungry and the reporter feared the child was not getting enough food.
These children were always fine. Many of them were obese.
English

Can somebody name me a child in the United States who has starved to death who wasn’t the subject of specific and targeted abuse by a parent or other caregiver?
I’m told constantly the children are starving so I’d like to actually identify one who has starved to death and not in some acute abuse situation.
There will be no answer to my question. There will just be name-calling and complaining that I dared ask.
