Zandile ‘Zee’ Nxumalo’s journey started with covers that eventually led to Amapiano fans calling for her to create her own sound.
“Making covers was the easiest part of my career,” Nxumalo says in an interview with FORBES AFRICA. “It did not intimidate me. But creating my own sound, the ‘Zee’ sound, has been the most fun.”
Known for her blend of Afropop storytelling with Amapiano’s rhythmic pulse and contemporary dance influences, her music has always been designed for her to move “fluidly [on] the dancefloor”.
Last year alone, she amassed more than 100 million streams across platforms, becoming the most-streamed local act in the country and cementing her position as a dominant force in the region’s music landscape.
