My late father, Oba Adeyinka Oyekan, was a trained pharmacist and dentist who also served his country during the Civil War before ascending the throne as the Oba of Lagos. His life reflected discipline, service, and an enduring commitment to humanity. In his honour, and in continued appreciation of the profession he deeply valued, I am pleased to serve as the major sponsor of the Pharmalympics organised by the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), University of Lagos Chapter. Beyond my community service and legislative responsibilities, this gesture is my own way of giving back to a field that was close to his heart, while also encouraging young minds to pursue excellence, teamwork, and purpose. To every young pharmacist-in-training: stay inspired, stay committed, and remember that service is the highest form of leadership.

Speaking at the Africa CEO Forum Presidential Panel yesterday evening in Kigali, I re-emphasised that Africa must put Africa first whilst creating opportunities for intra-Africa collaboration between our countries. Our continent cannot build scale by looking outward first. We must invest in one another, trade more with one another, build the corridors that connect our markets, ensure our innovative youthful population get the support they need, and give African businesses the confidence to expand across African borders. Nigeria’s reforms are not only about fixing yesterday. They are about preparing our economy to lead in the Africa of tomorrow. With AfCFTA, digital trade, shared infrastructure, stronger logistics, commodities exchange, and deeper private sector partnerships, we can turn Africa’s population and resources into real continental prosperity. The global risk and financial architecture must also give Africa a fair deal that recognises our local nuances and contexts. I thank my brother, President Paul Kagame, for his warm hospitality and for Rwanda’s continued leadership in showing what discipline, clarity and execution can do for development. Nigeria will continue to work with Rwanda and other African partners to build a continent that produces more, trades more, connects better, and competes with greater confidence in the world. Yesterday Thursday, 16th April, the iconic Woman Leader Emeritus and Otun Iyalode of Lagos hosted the Deputy Governor of Lagos State at her residence. The meeting was attended by members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and myself, in my capacity as member representing Lagos Island Constituency 1. Otun Iyalode offered royal blessings, strategic counsel, and a call for inclusive governance prioritising women and youth. The Deputy Governor expressed respect for her legacy and assured continued collaboration with traditional institutions and advisory bodies. I reaffirmed Lagos Island’s support for the APC administration and pledged close collaboration with the Deputy Governor and GAC. In a light-hearted moment, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro pointed out my ancestral link to the Obanikoro family through my maternal grandfather(Chief David Ajasa Ogunlana). The Deputy Governor’s surprised reaction ("Bawo, How?") was priceless. Alhaji Bode Oyedele and Hon. Rasaq Ajala joked that I never married outside Lagos Island, while the Otun Iyalode smiled and said: "That’s how Isale Eko people do — we love to marry one another." A beautiful reflection of my deep Lagos heritage. (Who knows… if I remarry, I might break tradition with a Northern man.) The meeting underscored the vital role of women leaders and elders in shaping Lagos State’s future.
