We are proud to celebrate Dr Caroline Kiarie, who has been recognised as a thought leader in the State of PR in Africa report 2026. "AI has moved from a peripheral tool to a core enabler of PR work. It has elevated the profession's capacity for insight-driven decision-making," she shared. It’s inspiring to see our GSMC community contributing to such important conversations in Africa. #PRAfrica2026 #ThoughtLeader #InnovationInPR #GSMC

Aga Khan University’s Graduate School of Media and Communications (GSMC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nation Media Group Uganda, strengthening collaboration between academia and the media industry. Through this partnership, we aim to bridge the gap between industry and academia, increase applied research, provide practical placement opportunities for students, and foster innovation in media viability and sustainability. The MoU was signed in the presence of Dean Nancy Booker, Associate Dean George Nyabuga, NMG Uganda Managing Director Susan Nsibirwa, and Managing Editor Allan Chekwech, who is also a GSMC alumnus. We look forward to the opportunities this collaboration will create. #MediaEducation #IndustryAcademia #MediaInnovation #StrategicPartnership

Reflecting on impact! GSMC and the Aga Khan Foundation met today to review the AGECS project, which successfully concluded in December 2025. Across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, the project strengthened media and civil societies to address gender inequality through mentorship, skills development, and leveraging research and advocacy. We're grateful to the Aga Khan Foundation for this partnership, which has laid a strong foundation for continued progress toward gender equality in media and civil society. #AGECS #GenderEquality #ThankYou #Partnership

After more than 15 years in the newsroom, former NTV journalist Mark Masai discovered there was more to communications than he had imagined. Stepping into agency leadership revealed a deeper, more rigorous side of the field and a need to understand strategic communications as a discipline. That realisation led him to GSMC’s Master of Arts in Strategic Communications. “I joined GSMC out of need,” Mark says. “After my time at NTV and then at the agency, I saw a real opportunity to grow in Strategic Communications. I did some research, and AKU’s programme stood out.” GSMC’s hybrid format fits his busy schedule; he catches up on recordings during long drives. And the practical focus is what matters most: he can apply what he learns with his clients right away. His advice? “What are you waiting for? Come on, be strategic.” Take the next step in your professional journey. Apply now at aku.edu/masc

GSMC at 10: Highlights from our event! What a night to remember. In an evening filled with reflection, celebration, and gratitude, we brought together faculty, staff, partners, students, alumni, and friends - one community celebrating a shared journey and vision as we marked 10 years of impact, growth, and transformation. Turning 10 was not just about celebrating how far we’ve come, but about pausing to appreciate what we have built together and what we continue to build. As we look ahead, we do so with excitement and purpose. The leaders we will nurture, the stories we will tell, and the impact we will create, this is only the beginning. Here’s to the next chapter. #GSMCat10 #StoriesOfChange

Presidential Advisor on Women's Rights, Hon. Harriette Chiggai: Gender Equality Is Not an Option; It Is a Development Imperative. It determines whether families thrive, whether communities are safe, and whether nations progress. Let us speak plainly today. Gender inequality is not merely a social problem. It is an economic burden. It is a justice crisis.

Prof @nabooker: Today’s newsroom is under unprecedented pressure; rapid technological change, the rise of AI, financial strain, and the relentless pace of breaking news. These forces are reshaping journalism, heightening emotional and professional demands, and fuelling conflict in the newsroom. For editors, navigating all this while keeping teams grounded is a real challenge and that’s why this programme on managing conflict in the newsroom matters.

Conflict is inevitable in our newsrooms today, but how we manage it makes all the difference. Today, we welcome 14 newsroom managers from 12 countries across Sub-Saharan Africa to the Managing Conflict in Today’s Newsroom Workshop. Offered through our partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (@KasMedia) Media Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa, the programme is designed to strengthen leadership and enhance the quality of journalism in their newsrooms. Over the next four days, participants will take part in a hands-on, expert-led learning experience, exploring the causes of newsroom conflict, developing skills in constructive communication and emotional intelligence, learning practical conflict resolution strategies, and discovering how to build psychologically safe, cohesive teams. Here’s to a week of learning, collaboration, and strengthening newsroom leadership!
