KDP-Turkey agreement in #Kurdistan Region:
Turkey allows KDP to control parts of South Kurdistan without much interference. Make Barzani Clan feel they have the ultimate power, let them exercise their power on Kurds, use Kurdistan’s wealth however they please, initiate side deals, etc., things that have huge consequences amongst Kurdistan’s advancements but not much when it comes to Turkey’s national interests.
In return Turkey’s military and intelligence capacity grows in South Kurdistan, Turkish soft power increases. Turkey looks like it isn’t against “all Kurds”. I mean how is Turkey against all Kurds when they’re friendly towards KDP right? They’re Kurdish. Use their own (KDP) to advance your goal. And of course, divide and conquer. Divide the Kurds so they go at each others throats, spilling each others blood. Perfect recipe to keep a nation down.
Because the fact is, if KDP was actually pro-Kurdistan—they’d be against everything that Turkey is doing, like the rest of Kurds. This was tested by the independence referendum: KDP leadership was threatened and immediately put back in their place.
You’d think that would be a wake up call to KDP, that hey Turkey IS in fact against all Kurds including us (KDP) if we don’t do as they say. But no. KDP’s history speaks for itself. KDP has been in bed with the Shah, Khomeini, Saddam, and now Erdogan. The Barzani Clan is about surviving, clinging to power until the next major event, then switch. And keep pulling Kurds along in their false nationalism.
The relationship between the Turkish government and KDP is not diplomatic as their lackeys are told to regurgitate.
It’s about Turkey dominating, eliminate all aspirations of a Kurdish state using a Clan that will do anything to remain in power even betraying its own people. Turkey knows KDP very well, Turkey knows KDPs history and knows how to tempt KDP. Turkey has been very successful.
Kurds should zoom out and realize that Turkey is in fact against all Kurds and against a Kurdish state. KDP is in fact about ensuring the Barzani Clan remains in control with whatever means necessary. Nowhere in this relationship are talks about advancing the Kurds and Kurdistan’s national interests.
It’s a win-win for Turkey-KDP.
It’s a loss for Kurds and Kurdistan.
