@smsmith70 @alexmassie @iainmartin1 Yes! Plumbing and joinery and building trades and electricians no longer exist here today in the year 3026! Let's go, to infinity and beyond!

@alexmassie @iainmartin1 OR. 43% of pupils have ALWAYS needed extra support but previously we were happy for them to leave school without much in the ways of qualifications to go into trades or manual jobs that no longer really exist.

I'm pretty sure that 43% of pupils do not in fact need additional support but that we have instead, as in other areas, expanded & lowered the criteria for eligibility so it seems as though 43% of kids need this. You could easily create a scenario in which 70% do too.
Anas Sarwar@AnasSarwar

43% of Scottish pupils need extra support. The SNP cut it anyway. Scottish Labour will fund 1,500 more classroom assistants - including 300 for ASN - so no child is left behind. The choice in May: more of the same, or a better future for our kids.

A helpful guide to what vegan documentaries mean versus what they show. WHAT THEY SHOW: A vast cattle feedlot in Oklahoma. Ten thousand animals in mud. Steel and concrete. Misery rendered at scale. WHAT THEY SAY: "This is how beef is produced." WHAT THEY DO NOT SAY: This is a US feedlot. The United Kingdom has approximately 3.7 million beef cattle. The vast majority live outside. On grass. On hills. In fields with names like Bottom Meadow and Far Pasture. None of them are in Oklahoma. WHAT THEY SHOW: Drone footage of Amazon deforestation. Burning trees. The scale of it making you feel sick. WHAT THEY SAY: "Caused by cattle ranching." WHAT THEY DO NOT SAY: This is Brazilian soy farming to feed Brazilian feedlot cattle for the Brazilian domestic and Chinese export market. Your British supermarket beef did not do this. The Lidl ribeye is not responsible for the Amazon. The soy in your plant-based burger may have a stronger case to answer. WHAT THEY SHOW: A scientist in a lab coat. WHAT THEY SAY: "Studies show red meat consumption is linked to..." WHAT THEY DO NOT SAY: Linked in an epidemiological survey that could not distinguish between someone eating a steak and someone eating a McDonald's. Both counted as "red meat." The person eating McDonald's four times a week and smoking and not exercising was in the same data column as the person eating a grass-fed sirloin. WHAT THEY SHOW: A plant-based meal, beautifully lit, with the word "WHOLE" somewhere in the caption. WHAT THEY DO NOT SHOW: The supply chain. The pesticides. The synthetic fertiliser. The food miles. The eight ingredients in the "natural" flavouring. The subsidies. The monoculture that replaced the meadow. The documentary is not lying exactly. It is showing you the worst possible version of one system and the best possible photograph of another. It is a menu in which one dish has a price and the other doesn't. Order the thing with the price. At least you know what you're paying.

I've been eating meat, eggs, butter, cheese, and water for five years. I've been told, variously, that I will develop: - Colon cancer - Heart disease - Scurvy - Gout - Kidney failure - Vitamin deficiencies - An insufficiently diverse gut microbiome So far I have developed: - Better sleep - A functioning brain before 9am - Joints that work - A gym performance that keeps improving - No desire to eat a rice cake I'm keeping an open mind. But if the colon cancer is coming, it is taking its time, and it is not interfering with my bench press.

People in greenhouses (or Greenland) shouldn’t throw stones. Last year the Danish government strongly criticised Israel for its defensive war in Gaza. The PM said the level of violence was “unacceptable”. Denmark used its presidency of the EU at the end of 2025 to advocate for stronger pressure on Israel but failed due to opposition by Germany, Hungary and others. Israel was lawfully defending its people against jihadist aggression. But around the same time that the Danish PM was trying to “punish” Israel she also was forced to apologise for the Danish government sterilising half of Greenland’s Inuit population of fertile females without their knowledge or consent from the 1960s to 1990s. The purpose was to limit the size of the indigenous population. The word “genocide” is often falsely and obscenely used to attack Israel, including by some Danish politicians, but Denmark’s actions in Greenland come clearly within the definition of genocide. Where is the outrage? Where is the ICJ? Where is South Africa?

Celtic played all the football - but at speed - against an agricultural Rangers side. They also had to overcome a team of officials deploying some absurd patterns of decision-making

Media very confused on this. Why do they think it makes sense to import LNG by tanker from America, increasing carbon footprint, when we could use our own supply? Don’t they know that US LNG is produced by fracking 🧟‍♂️which is supposed to be super bad? thetimes.co.uk/article/weve-h…

Don’t see how this is an argument against developing Rosebank, Cambo and Jackdaw. There’s still 15 billion (boe) in NSea. Enough for the transition to renewables. Why import it from Norway/Russia/Qatar? Norwegians are drilling like mad. And they don’t want even need it!

Periodic but important reminder that for all the noise devoted to it, new oil & gas exploration in the North Sea will make next to no difference in UK oil & gas output. It’s a sideshow! Like it or not, North Sea is a mature basin. As far as we know there’s not a lot oil/gas left.
