As with Musk doing foreign policy and everything else, this is the privatization of public power, which is always followed by the privatization of public money into the same hands. We saw this in Russia and it's how to replace a democracy with oligarchy.

Trump just picked his own personal criminal defense lawyers to the #2 & #3 top spots at DOJ. In any other era, this would have been a big story, a clear conflict of interest, a corrupt violation of keeping the Justice Department independent. But with Trump, barely a notice.

Walz stopped with the "weird" stuff (or radically scaled it back) because the Harris campaign was taken over by Biden alumni, who didn't like it, and they pushed Harris/Walz to run a much more centrist, Cheney-hugging, civility campaign. With the results we see before us.

In retrospect, what was the point of picking Tim Walz as the VP nominee? He got picked because he was good on TV associating Trump and Vance with the weird fringes of the online right, and then almost soon as he got the nomination, he stopped doing that. So why pick him?

I get the sentiment but a lot of responses saying they're just going to sit back, sit out, and let the very worst happen is a terrible and much too common response.
Unspeakable things are going to happen and it is terrible to even think about but we can't all just give up.

Cattle rancher Nick Nalder wants Trump to use tariffs to raise the price of foreign beef, so Nick can charge Americans higher prices for his beef.

Dems talking about the lessons they need to learn for ‘28 are revealing to me why Trump as a “threat to democracy” didn’t stick. Because even DEMS don’t believe it.
Nobody believes Trump is a unique threat to democratic self government if they expect to STILL HAVE IT in 4 years.

Just to clarify: this isn’t just the first time since WW2 that all incumbent parties in developed countries lost vote share.
It’s the first time since this data was first recorded in 1905. Essentially the first time in the history of democracy (universal suffrage began in 1894).
