@domesticetch Indesign is much more powerful for layouts, Illustrator has much more vector editing features, etc. Using Adobe means u have more options when designing. Only learn Figma if u need to do lots of UI stuff and design systems.

My fun fact for today is that I still do not know how to use Figma and I’m afraid it’s simply too late for me to learn

LinkedIn is getting more irritating each day now with everyone and their mom trying to be thought leaders, posting obfuscated ChatGPT word salad five time a day

@nahoj thanks for reporting Johan and sorry for the inconvenience everything seems fine on our side with tracking working fine but we've had a couple of other 503 reports from Sweden this morning. our developers are in touch with our CDN provider. see twitter.com/jvallstrand/st…
Johan Vallstrand@jvallstrand

@PlausibleHQ I get a 503 on the service since last light, nothing red on your status page. Will you be up soon? Is the tracking affected?

we really messed up when we made "marketing" = slapping some shiny a/b tested veneer and value props on an otherwise uninteresting thing. that's literally optimizing for mediocrity. if the thing doesn't have an interesting genesis story that justifies its existence, pls kill it

@claudioguglieri Yeah it's really dull, no character at all. Has the look of something designed by a UX designer. I appreciated the direction (focused or minimal or whatever) but not the execution. A missed opportunity

@ae_play All the apps with smart features like Notion just add too much overhead imo. I dont want to think about what templates to use and stuff like that. IA writer with some basic markdown works fine for me

I’ve been talking to lots of smart and creative people about their note-taking setup lately. A few surprises: - many use plain text files & their default/favorite text editor - some use paper only - some use Roam, Notion, etc. but use almost none of the features Why? 👇

@rsms I can imagine! My early thoughts using Figma was that it's such a benefit using web technology since they can develop and push out new features faster, but I guess it just presents different challenges than native apps and takes just as much effort.

@nahoj Oh yeah, an almost ridiculous amount of work which is a daily constant ongoing effort. For example, there’s likely a thousand eng hours put into context menus alone, which is nothing compared to the editor engine.

Although this article is a bit too extreme and an overreaction, I must say that as a non-Chrome user it seems more and more websites only work in chrom{e,ium}. At least once a week I have this experience (I use Safari.) Thread → lwn.net/SubscriberLink…

@rsms There must be an enormous amount of effort put in to making Figma feel so snappy and native? For me at least it’s much faster than Sketch when panning and zooming and stuff like that. Kinda surprises me

Really, pick the technological path that will give you the biggest budget for what really sets your software apart. If you’ll need a lot of scrolling views, menus or device-specific stuff like color accuracy, consider if maybe an OS-native path is more effective for you :–)

The gap in the digital industry between the US and European budgets will always surprise me. For a similar project, it's every time triple, if not more.. Money is really not my primary motivation but this huge difference deprives me of hesitation when I have 2 opportunities.
