Ugandan Designer Sebagereka Traces 6,000 Years of African Innovation in Nairobi Museum Exhibition Ugandan designer and researcher Ruth Sebagereka is currently presenting her exhibition “Design Along 6,000 Years” at the National Museum of Kenya. The showcase explores the continuity of African design, challenging the idea that the field is a Western import. By tracing specific motifs, silhouettes, and manufacturing techniques from Ancient Egypt and Nubia through to contemporary East African fashion, Sebagereka illustrates that many looks seen on modern runways have roots stretching back six millennia. By connecting ancient craftsmanship with current industry practices, Sebagereka provides a detailed look at how African heritage remains a constant part of the creative process – or, as they say in the business, how "old" forms are made "new" again.
