I created name.pn because in the digital age it's too easy to make assumptions about someone's name, pronouns, title and pronunciation. This way everyone can have a URL to share so no one has an excuse for getting it wrong any more. name.pn/quinn-daley

When you filled out your name.pn profile, you may have had to think more about the phonetics of your name than you usually do, or you may have learnt about how to spell your name in IPA. If that seemed like fun to you, there's some exciting news below from Luke:
Funetics@soundsfunetic

I'm excited to launch funetics: a free resource for phonetics & pronunciation. If you're a language learner or teacher, this is for you! The site will grow over the years to encompass more languages and more sounds. Check it out now at funetics.com

@yetanotherlefty @pedantic_git It's something to do with the code I use to support the drag-and-drop but can't quite work it out yet. I'll be sure to fix it by the weekend!

@yetanotherlefty @pedantic_git It only seems to be affecting me on Chrome on mobile - it's working on my laptop. Will make it challenging to debug but I'll try to work this out and let you know!

@yetanotherlefty @pedantic_git Oh goodness you're right! It's happening to me too. It wasn't caught by our automated tests. Let me work out what's wrong.

Thank you to everyone involved in this challenge over the last few weeks - it's been very hard to make this work without any Apple devices of my own!

Exciting news! name.pn has had a complete rewrite of its audio recording and playback system, and it should now work on most devices, including Apple ones running Safari. I'd love to hear feedback from Apple users about whether it works for them!

Thinking about giving people a gentle nudge towards using their personal email addresses for login to name.pn even if they use it primarily at work. Very interested in thoughts on this - add your comments to this issue card! github.com/fishpercolator…

@collab_future Thank you! In the spirit of a collaborative future (see what I did there?) name.pn is open source and has an open roadmap - if you or your colleagues want to contribute to discussions about its future, take a look at our github!

As a team with non-binary and immigrant individuals, in meetings and collaborations our names are continually mispronounced and pronouns are often assumed.. Big shout out to @namedotpn - such a handy tool and energy saver for having to correct people!

@heycaseywattsup I added these nine-dot handles from Material Design. I decided it's best to leave the whole block draggable and not switch to "handle mode" as offered by SortableJS (where you can only grab them by the handle).

A much requested feature has just landed on name.pn. If you have multiple pronouns, you can now drag-and-drop them (while setting up your profile) to display them in any order you want! Huge thanks to @erbridge and @heycaseywattsup for your help with designing!

@heycaseywattsup Yeah! And actually the JS library I used has built-in functionality for this. Do you think it's needed here? I added some explanatory text - it's tricky working out what's best here because most users have only one pronoun set.

New feature! Some people don't use pronouns and would always like to use their name. Some people are completely happy with any pronouns. Starting today, if you're one of those people you can set your name.pn profile to reflect this! Let us know if you use this!

Thinking about how painful JavaScript used to be. I needed code to enable/disable a series of checkboxes based on whether user has selected a specific option in a dropdown. Back when we all used jQuery this would be dozens of lines of mess. Today it's: github.com/fishpercolator…

@political_pleb If you're building a fancy interactive UI then Stimulus is probably not a good fit, but if you're building an app that works the "old" way with just HTML and HTTP but it wants some JS here and there to improve the UX then Stimulus is perfect. Definitely a place for both!

@political_pleb It allows you to do progressive enhancement the "old school" way but with nice tidy classes that make sense instead of big clunky non-OO scripts as you end up doing with jQuery. Progressive enhancement is possible in React but you need JS running on the server to do it.
