The case for Mr Collins
Plough Quarterly@Plough
“Be it boiled potatoes, the windowpanes at Rosings, or the momentous advent of shelves in a closet, Mr. Collins gives himself over to delight. To put it simply: he has cultivated thankfulness.” @joynessthebrave #JaneAusten250 plough.com/en/topics/cult…

@dlongenecker1 Remind me of why it seems that St Paul died 65 AD during the Neronian persecution. Thank you
English

St Paul died in 65 AD during the Neronian persecution. Because Paul is still alive at the end of The Acts of the Apostles (which was written by Luke) we can conclude that Acts was written before 65 AD. As Luke's gospel precedes the composition of Acts we can confidently push the composition of St Luke's gospel into the late 50s. As St Luke used Matthew and Mark as sources we must conclude that Matthew and Mark must have been written in the mid -early 50s or even the late 40s. IOW all three synoptic gospels were written within twenty--at most thirty-- years of Jesus' death and resurrection.

@rustyrockets Read the writings of those who have gone before us: the early church fathers, the ‘saints’, Foxe’s martyrs, Bonhoeffer…
Lean into that great communion of saints.

@Ljhodgson_ @LinguaDeoGloria I agree. Coming to appreciate the fact that it slows me right down …

@LinguaDeoGloria The beginning of Genesis and 1 Sam in HB.
John and Revelation in GNT.
Enjoying finding things that seem abnormal in the HB: dageshes or athnakhs in weird places, then learning about cool things like euphonic doubling.
Also love being able to read John in Greek semi-devotionally!

Reading 2 Chronicles in the Hebrew Bible and 2 Corinthians in the Greek New Testament. What are you reading through in your HB and GNT and what grammatical or theological concepts do you find to be interesting in your readings? #GreekNewTestament #HebrewBible #WhatAreYouReading

@arbevere It was a Catholic owned and run hospital that the ACT government has seized even while the Catholic church opposed the seizure.

This is a chilling portent of the future of religious freedom, even in a liberal democracy. As I have long warned political Progressives will behave somewhere between the third French republic and the soviet union.

Mother of six, Jodie Jayatilaka, watched on as the construction crew slowly removed the cross from the Calvary Hospital building. “All my children were born here, and I am sad to see the cross coming down, along with the hope it represents,” she said. catholicvoice.org.au/calvarys-iconi…

@TheRestHistory Tom, see Rene Girard on religion and violence. His thesis, for which he was awarded the Légion d’honneur, asserts religion, the cult especially, as a by product of violence- a means of containment.

We finish off our two episodes on the 'Historical Jesus' today, by discussing the history behind Jesus Christ.
Tom and Dominic discuss the scepticism around his existence, the theories about resurrection and crucifixion, and the role of his disciples.
