@san_x_m What I heard, because of political pressure, the matter was not moving. Her father sold his home and business and moved to Mumbai. He fought a legal case from there and got the matter moved.

Her name was Hetal Parekh. She was 18 years old and a Class 10 student at Welland Gouldsmith School in Kolkata. She lived with her parents and elder brother in a third-floor flat at Anand Apartments in Bhowanipore. On March 2 1990, she told her mother that the security guard at their building had been following her to and from school and had asked her to accompany him to watch a film. Her father filed a written complaint with the security agency the same day. A transfer order was issued for the guard, Dhananjoy Chatterjee. It was due to take effect on March 5. On the morning of March 5, Hetal left home for her ICSE examination. Dhananjoy was still on duty for his final shift. She returned home in the afternoon. Her mother had stepped out to a nearby temple. When she returned and could not open the door, she asked neighbours to break it down. Hetal was found dead inside the flat. Police alleged that Dhananjoy had followed her into the apartment, raped and murdered her before fleeing. He disappeared for several weeks and was arrested in May 1990. There were no eyewitnesses to the crime. The prosecution case rested on circumstantial evidence, while Dhananjoy maintained his innocence throughout the trial and during his years in prison. The Alipore Sessions Court sentenced him to death in 1991. The Calcutta High Court upheld the sentence in 1992, and the Supreme Court later confirmed it, describing the case as one of the rarest of rare. His mercy petition was rejected by the Governor of West Bengal. Appeals for clemency from Amnesty International and the Asia Human Rights Commission were unsuccessful. At 4:30 AM on August 14 2004, his 39th birthday, Dhananjoy Chatterjee was hanged at Alipore Jail. He became the first person executed in India in the 21st century for a non-terrorism offence. On his way to the gallows, he reportedly asked that future investigations be conducted more carefully. He continued to maintain his innocence until the end. After the execution, researchers from the Indian Statistical Institute argued that the investigation had been flawed and that evidence potentially favourable to Dhananjoy had been overlooked. Hetal’s father had filed a complaint three days before she was killed. A transfer order had already been issued. It never took effect in time. Whether justice was fully served on August 14 2004 remains a matter of debate. Follow for stories India deserves to remember.

A woman at HDFC Bank invested her entire life's hard-earned savings—totaling ₹10 lakhs—in a Fixed Deposit (FD). However, when she visited the bank upon the maturity of the deposit, she was refused payment. The woman possessed her bank passbook, ATM card, and all other necessary documents; yet, she was made to run from pillar to post for several days, being given various conflicting explanations. If the customer holds all the relevant documents, where, then, has her hard-earned money actually gone? The poor and the common man deposit their entire life's savings in banks precisely to ensure the safety of their money. But if people are forced to wander endlessly just to claim their own funds even after maturity, how can public trust in the banking system possibly be sustained?
