For now, it is not about EU membership, but about SEPA (Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, etc. are also part of it). It can be useful for turkish businesses, individuals, and the large Turkish diaspora in Europe which could save significant fees on euro transfers that today cost tens of euros per transaction

The European Union 🇪🇺 has formally offered that Türkiye 🇹🇷 join the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) i.e. an EU‑backed payment integration system that currently includes 41 countries and standardizes euro‑currency cross‑border transfers. ✅️ If accepted, it would enable faster, cheaper euro payments, boost trade and investment, and require alignment with EU financial regulations. ❗️Challenges include revenue loss for domestic banks and regulatory adjustments. Decision is still pending ♾️

@provocatr Crete is Greek = NATO. Beyond that, it's mostly evacuation and defensive operations. I don't think Spain wants to be more involved, given that it doesn't invest much in its military

This is about protecting NATO (and partly EU) countries. Türkiye can also benefit from this. I don't look at news portals, only official government statements. La Moncloa, Government of Spain, official website: "The 'Cristóbal Colón' mission in the Mediterranean will be to provide protection and air defence, thereby complementing the capabilities of the 'Patriot' battery deployed in Turkey. It will also be ready to support any evacuation of civilian personnel who may be affected by the conflict. The team will now head for the Mediterranean to reach the shores of Crete (not directly to Cyprus) around 10 March."

Here’s what he says 👇 According to Özel, part of the scheme involves a story about a student dying in a hotel. The idea? To use it to implicate him politically. He also mentions a #FETÖ member connected to the case (someone who, he says, still wins government contracts and even boards Erdoğan’s plane). Özel calls the entire effort a politically motivated “kumpas” (i.e. scheme) aimed at damaging his reputation. In short: Özel alleges a mix of tragedy, controversy, and political manipulation is being used against him 😶
