Really enjoyed my first ever visit to the Philippines. Spent 3 days with the new President of the Football Federation, John Gutierrez. The President is laser focused on investing into Youth Development understanding its a marathon not a sprint. His vision and commitment is longterm. All of this was made possible by former National Team Player, @nateburkey who realized the Country needs a new approach! 🙇‍♂️⚽️🙏🇵🇭 #Philippinesfootball #Philippines #PFF #Footballdevelopment #Football

Looking forward to my first visit to the Philippines. Excited about the potential to create something special for the Country. Football Starts at Home! ⚽️🇵🇭

I have been following @tomsan106 for sometime now. Been a massive fan of his approach and philosophy, as ball mastery was a huge part of my own development. Extremely excited to have him visit @philfootball to discuss how we can improve the landscape for all of 🇵🇭 football.

Many countries believe they are 1 Coach away from qualifying for a World Cup Tournament, or 1 Coach away from winning a World Cup Tournament. Culture is by far the biggest Predictor in Winning! No country has ever won a Men’s World Cup Tournament with a Foreign Coach, and out of the 8 Countries that have won World Cup Trophies, they have never done it with a Foreign Coach. Currently, 7 out of the 8 World Cup Champions have never had a Foreign Coach, the exception being England, Eriksson & Capello, and that didn’t turn out so well. No country has won a World Cup Tournament that doesn’t border another Country that’s won a World Cup Tournament, with the exception of England, but if you consider the English Channel a border, they do to. Culture eats Strategy for Breakfast, every time.

“The successes of the emerging nations at the Women's World Cup shows a pattern developing. The nations with established positions and long term development programmes are being caught up by those where grassroots football is still play based - but who have now added better support structures. Tom Byer has stated that "Football Starts at Home" which is different from "Football comes from coaching, clubs and Association programmes." The more naturally developed, individual talent of the lower ranked countries, entering club and international football, is disrupting the status quo. The established and better funded and structured traditional powers, from the USA and Europe, are facing strong challenges. These emerging nations are able to benefit as their individual players start to play regularly in elite club competition on a global basis as the Women's game provides more opportunities than perhaps the structures in their own countries are able to provide. Established nations need to focus on how to encourage pre-entry and entry level players to develop naturally through playing with the ball rather than in competition. Spending some of the millions received in sponsorship on giving youngsters a ball each, rather than highly expensive branding exercises, would be a good step forward. Young players need to be happy with the ball before they are told to be happy as part of a team.” Graham Morgan Former Head of Global Grassroots Football, adidas

This is more powerful than any National Curriculum, Advanced Coaching License, Elite Talent Identification Program, Million Dollar Training Facility. “Culture eats Strategy for Breakfast!” Brazil changes working hours for fans to see Women's World Cup womensagenda.com.au/life/sport/bra…

It's easier to work in a country with no Football Culture than it is to work in a country with the wrong Football Culture. A country can produce top players if they focus on getting the foundation phase correct, regardless how poor the coaching is. Winning that battle is Key! 🔑

From the thousands of posts over the past 10yrs I’ll break down my philosophy: Get a Child comfortable with a Ball at their feet before you send them over the line into organized play and that child will flourish and develop into a decent player. Period. Have a good day! 😜⚽️

They are apparently making one more cut before they fly to Indonesia. But yes very talented group and very well coached also 👏🏽 Good things for the future…

@nateburkey @tuloyfctaketomo For a 2003 cutoff cycle, there's just a lot of '05 kids on the training pool right now. Unusual, but they deserve it. The younger players in the U19 pool are actually the more technical ones, while the older players are more physically developed. Talented batch indeed.
