@JDaviesPhD It’s tragic to contemplate how much time and money you invested in becoming credentialed, only to ultimately make a net negative contribution to society.

@JDaviesPhD Teaching people to prioritize external blame is one of the fastest routes to personal misery and societal breakdown. The credentialed harm inflicted in the name of your ‘care’ is difficult to overstate.

AI therapy isn't neutral. It's mostly informed by a CBT-ideology, focusing on what individuals can do to change themselves & better fit their enviroment, rathan than encouraging critical scrutiny of the social conditions harming them. It's an agent for spreading neoliberal norms.

I know you understand this stuff far better than I do, but the following is how I simplify it biblically. Both the woke left and woke right are grievance-based worldviews dominated by externalized blame. In stark contrast to biblical Christianity which is gratitude-based and prioritizes internal righteousness (log-in-your-eye priority) I see them as different flavors of the same Psalm 2 humanist revolution that is quietly infiltrating the Church, both disguised in biblical language. (“many will fall away”) woke left = precursor to harlot religion woke right = precursor to anti-Christ empire They will temporarily unify in the first half of Daniel’s 70th week, until the 10 kings “burn her (harlot) with fire” at the middle of the week (Rev. 17:16)

@TheRightMelissa I didn't really understand the depth & complexity of the situation w/ the woke right. I got hung up on a term Lindsay was using & pushed pretty hard. I was wrong. Things have really become complicated w/ many factions in the past 5 years. I struggle sometimes in my understanding.

Yikes, I feel really bad. I almost had a falling out with a good friend, a conservative Christian, who is tried to warn me about Tucker almost two years ago & I got real testy with her because I thought she didn’t know what she was talking about. Tucker’s puff piece interview with Nick Fuentes was my rude awakening. I’m still yet to admit to my friend I was wrong. The topic hasn’t come up. I’m going to bring it up & apologize for my naivety

Find someone who was warning us about Tucker Carlson 2 years ago and thank them. They took a ton of arrows for it back then.

Jude 20-23 tells us how to respond to apostates Some save by “compassion”while others “save with fear” Jude gives us the four prerequisites for making a spirit-led “distinction” between “save with fear” or “compassion” 1. building yourselves up on your most holy faith (“spirit and truth”) 2. praying in the Holy Spirit (“lean not on your own understanding” ) 3. keep yourselves in the love of God 4. looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And on some have compassion, making a distinction; but others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment defiled by the flesh. Jude 20-23 This balance is rare today. Many default into one or the other without a spirit guided distinction.

Leaders who fall publicly need grace. They don’t need enablement or lies, but they do need grace if it can come in a sanctified way.

Another post from Bob that no one disagrees with. Everyone agrees that what he lists here does not constitute syncretism. Syncretism includes implementing secular frameworks and interventions in your so-called biblical counseling, which is what CIBC is doing. That’s the issue.
Bob Kellemen@BobKellemen

Not Syncretism “Now that we have clarified that counseling systems have to do with beliefs, let’s consider briefly what can still be used from other systems. For example, we would conclude it is not syncretism to learn about psychology and psychological research. To say that is syncretism would be like saying it is syncretism to learn geology. There are worldview issues with psychology and geology, but they are still academic disciplines. We can learn useful descriptive information from the secular psychologies as they research humans. It is wise to acknowledge these findings, but always also to assess them biblically. It is not syncretism to acknowledge scientific research that does not violate biblical Truth. For example, it would not be syncretism to acknowledge that hypothyroidism may be a cause of some depression. Wisdom would tell me that I should know this. It is not syncretism to learn from helpful methodologies. For example, if a secular counselor has learned through experience how good questions are worded and how bad questions are worded, I can learn from his experience. On the one hand, I need to keep my radar active so that I don’t buy into the philosophy behind why those questions are being asked (the framework of that system). On the other hand, learning how to ask questions from another system is not as much of a core issue as incorporating their answer to the question, why do people do what they do. The answer to that question would be in competition with a biblical framework.” Source, Scripture and Counseling: God’s Word for Life in a Broken World, Bob Kellemen, General Editor, Jeff Forrey, Managing Editor. Chapter 9, “Caution: Counseling Systems Are Belief Systems,” Ernie Baker and Howard Eyrich, 174-175.

New Age-informed therapy: The Modern Golden Calf of the Church: Beware lest anyone takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. (Col 2:8) (Disclaimer: This is not a rejection of all therapy. I highly value biblical counseling that is truly gospel-centered. My contention is with some clinically-informed “biblical”counseling that is essentially New Age practices dressed up with biblical language or with types of secular therapy that are incompatible with a biblical worldview.) Just as the “high places” in the Old Testament were sites where the true worship of Yahweh was mixed with pagan practices, therapy culture in the Church today often mixes the gospel with New Age and acts as functional idolatry (for example, when Somatic Therapy teaches to essentially deify the body and to worship it’s “wisdom”). “We fear the Lord, but we also serve these idols” — see 2 Kings 17:33 We scoff at the ancients bowing down to carved images, yet some believers now bow to the therapeutic processes that functionally displace Christ, the sufficiency of Scripture and the transformative power of the gospel. The following are just a few of the many examples of therapeutic practices that are incompatible with biblical truth and have quietly infiltrated the Church: Somatic Therapy / Somatic Experiencing: popularized by The Body Keeps the Score, in which the body is functionally deified and treated as the primary source of truth and healing. Shadow Work (Jungian): confronting and integrating the repressed “shadow” self rather than repenting of sin and being conformed to Christ. Talking to / Reparenting the Inner Child: dialoguing with or reparenting a supposed “wounded child” part of the self. Sadly, a rapidly growing number of Christians (disproportionately women) have greater confidence in therapeutic processes than they do in the transformative power of the gospel. Contemporary trauma theory (CTT) often acts as a Trojan horse that is smuggling in “another gospel.” Many aspects of CTT are incompatible with biblical anthropology. Even by the standards of the “wisdom of the world,” CTT is loaded with pseudoscientific claims and methods. Beware the counsel of credentialed false teachers who initially bring a measure of superficial relief, only to end up causing great harm. “While they promise liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption;” (2 Peter 2:19) “But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them…” 2 Peter 2:1 “Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?” (Gal 3:3) “For certain men have crept in unnoticed…” (Jude 4a)

The Body Keeps the Score is junk science. Part of the trauma trend. It came into the church via “church too”, an offshoot of the me too movement. It saw its fiercest proponents in @R_Denhollander and her fellow activists. Researchers continue to find fresh evidence disproving it.

A fresh academic debunking of van der Kolk’s The Body Keeps the Score has just been published. VDK's best-selling book argues that trauma is archived by the body (an interesting story and a fictional one – backed up by plenty of anecdote and little evidence). 🧵

Some claim to be “biblical” counselors when in reality they are integrationists concealed by doublespeak, merely masquerading in the skin suit of biblical values. Others are clinically-informed secular counselors. Either way, both are convincing vulnerable Christians (“little ones,” Matt. 18) to adopt a destructive, unbiblical worldview. “But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them…” 2 Peter 2:1 Beware lest anyone takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ.
