Statement: Nature Canada Welcomes Prime Minister Carney’s Nature Announcement The measures announced today strengthen our trust that Prime Minister Carney will follow through on his promises to protect and restore nature. Nature Canada sees the $3.8 Billion announced today, along with new measures to meet Canada’s nature goals, as an impressive step toward key biodiversity commitments such as protecting 30 percent of land and ocean by 2030, embracing nature-based climate solutions, and ending harmful subsidies to polluting industries. Canadians cherish our natural heritage and appreciate a government that will defend and restore nature as a key priority even in the hardest of times. The measures announced today strengthen our trust that Prime Minister Carney has a plan to meet that challenge. This announcement is a meaningful step forward, and we look forward to seeing it translated into action on the ground across the country. As nature spending plummets by 62%, the federal government remains silent on the future of our conservation programs. March 31st is the deadline. We are demanding clarity for the forests, waters, and wildlife that sustain us. We can't build a stable economy on a collapsing environment Mark Carney. cc: Julie Dabrusin, Nathalie Provost hilltimes.com/story/2026/03/…

We are grateful for your dedication and support for nature in Canada. As we celebrate World Wildlife Day today, we hope you’ll give back to help species at risk and support our work so you and I can speak on behalf of wildlife that cannot speak for themselves. Right now, we are in the midst of launching our 2026 Bird Fund - an exciting initiative that will directly improve and restore bird habitats in cities and towns from coast to coast. This grassroots work is set to begin in just a few weeks time. Working together with municipalities and community groups acting to: Restore habitats in cities to provide food and shelter for urban wildlife; Eliminate the use of harmful pesticides in urban parks and greenspaces; Introduce laws to make windows safer for birds; and Establish policies to dim urban lights during key migratory periods; We hope you’ll support the exciting projects we have planned to make our planet a better home for birds and ALL wildlife species. Everything helps:bit.ly/4u2LnOR

Magpie River in Canada now has legal rights – just like a person. Thanks to efforts by the Innu First Nation, it has the right to flow freely, maintain its biodiversity, be free from pollution, and sue if these rights are threatened. Which Canadian landscapes do you think could benefit from legal protection? naturecanada.ca/defend-nature/…

Nature deserves a fighting chance. Corporations have rights, regulations, and lawyers to protect them. Protecting nature’s rights means corporations can no longer get away with dumping toxic chemicals into rivers and lakes and then walking away. Isn’t it time to give nature a seat at the table?

We can’t steal cars or TVs or break into someone’s house without consequences. Our laws protect people and their property. Doesn’t nature deserve the same respect? Shouldn’t rivers, forests, and wildlife have legal protection too?

The land shapes who we are as Canadians. To be its true stewards, we need to give nature legal rights to exist, thrive and regenerate freely. Which places in Canada’s nature deserve protection?

Our laws protect what matters most. But our rivers, forests, and ecosystems are left unprotected. Do you think nature deserves legal rights?

Protecting nature now protects our economy later. Giving nature legal rights – so rivers, forests, and land can’t be poisoned or overused – helps prevent costly clean-ups paid for by all of us. No more boom-and-bust cycles that hurt our jobs and local communities. Are we doing enough to protect nature and our future?

Every generation decides what it leaves behind. If we want our children to inherit a natural landscape that’s healthy, resilient and full of life, we need to start protecting nature’s rights. What's one place in nature you want your kids to be able to enjoy?

It’s freezing out there, and for our bird friends, the struggle is real! February is one of the toughest months for wild birds. Natural snacks are buried under snow, and birds are burning through their energy reserves just to stay warm. That’s why it’s National Feed the Birds Month—the perfect time to step up your backyard game. But being a Bird Defender means keeping your feathered neighbours safe from predators and disease and you need a solid game plan. Quick tips to get you started: Keep it Clean: Dirty feeders can spread disease—regular scrubbing is key. Safety First: Placement matters to keep birds safe from neighborhood cats and deadly windows. Canadians are worried about meeting our basic needs; governments must prioritise employment and economics. And the best way to generate sustainable jobs is to build our economy on a foundation of environmental responsibility. Cannibalising nature for short‑term profits would only hasten long‑term catastrophe. I spoke with The Narwhal’s @AinsCruickshank, about whether the federal government is rising to the moment. 📰 thenarwhal.ca/canada-misses-…
