@simplepastor @JubileePlus @SPCKPublishing That’s such a kind and encouraging thing to say, thanks Phil.

@natwillnatter @JubileePlus @SPCKPublishing I haven't read your book (yet) but I have put in on my son's 2024 reading list so he can learn about mercy from someone who lives it. Sometimes if you know the author the book recommends itself.
English

24 books read in 2024.
Highlights:
— The Jubilee Gospel (great read for those wanting to understand the name @jubileeplus)
— Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes
And yes, I read my own book! (In a studio, recording the audiobook, out 10 Jan 2025 by @SPCKPublishing.)

@natwillnatter I guess I just think we should look at the Prodigal Son parable as showing us *we* look at God differently, depending on our circumstances - but God looks at us the same, no matter what. The Father loved both sons exactly the same, but *their* views on that love shifted.
English

@DavePiperDJ That’s his planned speech — there’s no way to be sure it was about anything other than staying alive. (Though I agree that he probably was repentant, and I absolutely hold that repentance is necessary for salvation — though even our repentance is a gift from God! More mercy!)
English

@natwillnatter @TerryVirgo "I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you."
Repentance. Right there!
English

@DavePiperDJ @TerryVirgo The son’s motivate seems to be his needs — getting food so he doesn’t starve. And the father doesn’t wait to hear what the son has to say before he runs to welcome him back. The mercy of God is totally outrageous. The father even throws a party for this party-loving prodigal!
English

@TerryVirgo *Seems* is the operative word. But the prodigal saw his life for what it was, repented, and set off for home *before* his father ran to meet him.
So...
We are (often) more attentive to God when we're needy failures than when we're impressive winners.

@GalactusJack @JubileePlus @SPCKPublishing @AJWTheology Thanks Ben! Really appreciate your kind words. Happy new year to you!

@natwillnatter @JubileePlus @SPCKPublishing Loved 'Tis Mercy All Natalie, great job, thanks for writing it! I also read @AJWTheology Remaking The World which was superb as well. Happy new year to you!

I’d highly recommend keeping a 5-year journal. I’m 3.5 years in and it brings me so much joy as I look back with wonder and amazement at what Jesus has done in me and around me.
The Lord has dealt bountifully with me! (Ps. 116:7)

Yes! Really good point. Why do we have this odd double-standard? (I confess, I have it too.)
A great, brief, thought-provoking, helpful post.

If your Christmas is characterised by abundance rather than lack, what can you give, share or do to make someone else’s day a cause for joy instead of sorrow?
