last night i asked a friend to join me on the memecoin teardown train. like literally everyone else in the space right now, he agreed memecoins are uninteresting. but he doesn’t think it’s a battle worth fighting unless i can propose something to take it’s place. and then a few weeks back, another influential figurehead said “i feel like you want to watch the world burn” after i shared bearish observations on farcaster. i’m usually naively bright-eyed and optimistic about things. but for a minute i was second guessing myself for being too much of a downer. am i being too harsh? no, im not. fuck that and fuck wagmi and fuck your bags lol experimentation is what makes crypto the best industry to work in. it’s uncharted territory. there is no playbook. we’re writing it is we go. people that invest in crypto are financially motivated. people that build in crypto are novelty seeking. you’re early, you’re forward-thinking, you see the vision for an expanded internet, and you’re willing to slowly pave the way inch by inch. we should normalize attacking stagnation. i’ve spent every day for the last 500 days trying to imagine new things to do with crypto. but even if that wasn’t the case, you should be able to pick a fight with an overplayed meta (like memecoins) to create the space for new ideas. you should be able to nudge others to keep going, to try new things. that’s what we’re all here for. there’s too much shit to tinker with.
