@mhevery Micro benchmarks are not easy. The `0-x` versus `-x` does not play any role in this benchmark. The performance cliffs are coming from 3 things: - Using -1 as indexes (0.41) - Using additions with undefined values (0.42) - And float conversion to integer while indexing (0.92)

@jankeromnes @engineers_feed Just use a DSL: (t=0) 7-0, 4-0 (t=4) 3-4, 0-4 --> 3-4, 4-0 (t=7) 0-7, 1-3 --> 7-0, 1-3 (t=8) 6-1, 0-4 --> 1-6, ... (t=9) 0-7, ... When you are using the right DSL, the code is self-documenting, and the problem is easier to reason about.

It's so hard to form an opinion on nuclear power as a good carbon-free energy source 😖 - maintain ancient leaky plants or shutdown? - build new safer "cleaner" plants that will cost 💰💰💰 & come online in several decades maybe? - do lots of R&D or give up and focus on ☀️/🌬️/🔋?
