NCAER convened a National Workshop on the “Assessment of Indirect and Intangible Benefits of Irrigation Projects” in collaboration with the Central Water Commission (CWC), Ministry of Jal Shakti, on March 17, 2026 at the NCAER campus. Experts from 20 States and Union Territories participated and deliberated on ways to strengthen appraisal frameworks to better capture the indirect and intangible benefits of irrigation projects. #Irrigation #WaterResources #PublicPolicy

NCAER hosted a Women’s Day talk on 16 March 2026 with Ms Simran Sharma, a leading figure in Indian para-sports, at its campus. Ms Simran spoke about her success in national and international sprint events, including a bronze at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, and her goal of winning Paralympic gold for India. She also credited the constant support of her coach and husband, Naik Gajendra Singh. NCAER hosted a webinar titled “Gender Transformation: Insights from the India Human Development Survey (IHDS)” on March 3, 2026 to mark Women’s History Month. Moderated by Professor Sonalde Desai, the event featured NCAER Director General, Mr Suresh Goyal and IHDS team members Dr Pallavi Choudhuri, Dr Debasis Barik, Dr Ruchi Jain, Dr Dibyasree Ganguly and Dr Athira Vinod from NCAER, along with Dr Sharan Sharma from University of Maryland. How do education and wealth compare in shaping adult mortality risk? Using longitudinal data from @ncaer’s India Human Development Survey, new research finds that educational attainment has a substantially stronger protective effect on mid-age (15–59) mortality than household wealth. Can household financial shocks produce gender-differentiated educational setbacks? New research using @ncaer’s IHDS-I and IHDS-II data shows that gender differences in secondary school dropout are shock-specific, with distinct patterns depending on the type and persistence of household economic adversity. Although girls have lower average dropout rates, their vulnerability increases under certain financial hardships, while boys are more likely to drop out in response to shocks that create immediate income pressures. His lecture highlighted the use of multiple waves of the India Human Development Survey panel for demography and health research, with particular emphasis on leveraging its panel structure for longitudinal analysis.
