NCAER hosted a Women’s Day talk on 16 March 2026 with Ms Simran Sharma, a leading figure in Indian para-sports, at its campus. Ms Simran spoke about her success in national and international sprint events, including a bronze at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, and her goal of winning Paralympic gold for India. She also credited the constant support of her coach and husband, Naik Gajendra Singh. NCAER research staff member @Depannita2 presented a paper titled “Exploring Gender Disparities in Digital and Financial Literacy: A Systematic Review and Bibliometric Study,” co-authored with Shivani Chaudhry and IEPF Chair Professor @csmohapatra_dr, at the International Conference on Advancing Economics (ICAE) held at Christ University Delhi NCR on February 26, 2026. NCAER hosted a webinar titled “Gender Transformation: Insights from the India Human Development Survey (IHDS)” on March 3, 2026 to mark Women’s History Month. Moderated by Professor Sonalde Desai, the event featured NCAER Director General, Mr Suresh Goyal and IHDS team members Dr Pallavi Choudhuri, Dr Debasis Barik, Dr Ruchi Jain, Dr Dibyasree Ganguly and Dr Athira Vinod from NCAER, along with Dr Sharan Sharma from University of Maryland. NCAER faculty member, IEPF Chair Professor @csmohapatra_dr spoke at the IEPFA-NCAER Workshop held at Sapphire International School on March 7, 2026, on the occasion of International Women’s Day. He delivered a talk titled “The Future is Now: Financial Education for Gen-Alpha and Bridging the Gender Gap for a Viksit Bharat.” In his address, he highlighted the importance of early financial education, digital safety, and gender-inclusive financial literacy to empower young learners and women to participate confidently in the digital financial ecosystem.

How do education and wealth compare in shaping adult mortality risk? Using longitudinal data from @ncaer’s India Human Development Survey, new research finds that educational attainment has a substantially stronger protective effect on mid-age (15–59) mortality than household wealth. The analysis also identifies community-level educational effects—particularly for women—highlighting education’s multidimensional role in shaping adult survival outcomes. Read more: bit.ly/4cElQoW

Can household financial shocks produce gender-differentiated educational setbacks? New research using @ncaer’s IHDS-I and IHDS-II data shows that gender differences in secondary school dropout are shock-specific, with distinct patterns depending on the type and persistence of household economic adversity. Although girls have lower average dropout rates, their vulnerability increases under certain financial hardships, while boys are more likely to drop out in response to shocks that create immediate income pressures. NCAER faculty member @DebasisBarik25 served as a resource person at the 3-day workshop, “Decoding Large-Scale Public Health Data: Structure and Evaluation Strategies,” organised by the Population Studies Unit at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata from February 10–12, 2026. His lecture highlighted the use of multiple waves of the India Human Development Survey panel for demography and health research, with particular emphasis on leveraging its panel structure for longitudinal analysis.

Carlson Chair Professor in Business Analytics & Information Systems in the Information & Decision Sciences Department at the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, on March 6, 2026.
