Using two waves of NCAER’s India Human Development Survey data, new research traces the pathways linking domestic remittances to food security. The findings show that remittances reduce food insecurity primarily by boosting purchasing power, rather than through agricultural investment or home production. How are inequalities in physical development reproduced across generations? New research using NCAER’s India Human Development Survey data finds a strong intergenerational link in height based on parent–son pairs. The results show that differences in sons’ height across socioeconomic groups are largely explained by parental characteristics and educational attainment.
