These results underscore the need to strengthen rural markets and expand access to affordable, nutritious food. Read more: bit.ly/4w2GAOd

India has the opportunity to transform ageing from a narrative of decline into one defined by continued connection, purpose, and grace. Research staff at NCAER, @DrPalashBaruah and Madhura Chowdhuri note that urbanisation, migration, and shifting aspirations are reshaping family and social structures. As a result, many older adults are navigating later life with greater independence—but also, at times, increased isolation. It is therefore time to rethink what dignified ageing truly looks like. New research using NCAER’s India Human Development Survey data finds a strong intergenerational link in height based on parent–son pairs. The results show that differences in sons’ height across socioeconomic groups are largely explained by parental characteristics and educational attainment. These gaps stem more from unequal starting conditions than from differences in how these factors translate into outcomes. Read more: bit.ly/4w2GAOd
