Behind the scenes twitterings by the historic site staff of the N.C. State Capitol

State Capitol Police officers are ready to welcome visitors back to the @ncstatecapitol, which reopened to the public this week for the first time since May of last year. We hope you make time to stop by to see this historic Raleigh landmark.

Today we officially launch a new digital humanities project that names and shares the stories of the 130+ enslaved African American men who built, maintained, and worked in the NC State Capitol 1833-1865. We invite you to visit namingtoknowing.org #BlackHistoryMonth

#MapMonday: Shaffer's Outline Map of Raleigh, NC, 1888. The map shows buildings, railroads, points of interest, street names, and natural features. It also includes an illustration of the @ncstatecapitol. View the map at slnc.info/RalMap1888.

This 4th of July, a Raleigh tradition continues! The Capitol will host a ceremony that includes an outdoor naturalization for new citizens. It will begin on the south grounds at noon with a reading from the Declaration of Independence and a wreath laying, after a musical show.
