Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa semakin lama sperma "disimpan" sebelum ejakulasi, dapat membuat kualitas sperma menjadi lebih buruk. Perburukan kualitas tersebut meliputi kerusakan DNA, stress oksidatif, hingga gangguan pergerakan sperma.
Hal tersebut bisa terjadi karena sperma yang "disimpan" di tubuh akan mengalami penuaan dan kualitasnya menurun drastis.
Ejakulasi lebih sering, baik melalui aktivitas seksual atau masturbasi, dapat “membersihkan” sperma rusak dan meningkatkan peluang kehamilan alami maupun IVF.
