Just watched someone die right now and I don’t know how to feel.

The thought process behind blocking/muting friends doing better than you is so insidious because; before you carefully and deliberately pick out those doing better than you that you proceed to block/mute them, you’d have to also figure out those you feel aren’t doing better than you or are currently less than you for you to spare them, and you spare them not because of love, values or care, you spare them because their present state in life doesn’t threaten your sense of self, their perceived stagnation or struggles offers you psychological comfort, you see how crazy this mental sorting looks? The mental labor of ranking their lives against yours, evaluation of who’s ahead and who’s behind, the need to erase evidence of others thriving so you can function emotionally, where your relationships are filtered through ego and proximity to your insecurities… Yes feel what you feel, but how you endorse it is the issue, that whole process of blocking/muting is not self-protective, it’s self-avoidant, it won’t heal you, it’ll only deepen and enlarge the problem, it is an urgent cry for psychological help. First solution is you must, no matter what, learn to exist horizontally or vertically with the success of others.

I’ve read a lot of nonsense takes on envy today, but being envious of your friends because they’re married might take the crown. Career? Lifestyle? Maybe, I can understand. But Marriage? Let’s be serious, abeg. 🫠

I don’t know why people can’t believe that others don’t have the same experience they do. For most of my life I’ve been surrounded by people enjoying success I hoped for and I’ve never felt what was described towards them.
